The group demonstrated speed, pass catching and route running skills, as well as all things change of direction related. In this article I am going to dive into my top performers of the group. These kids need to be on the radar for the next level. Let’s get it started with the standout upperclassmen.
The 5’8″ 170 lbs repeatedly had me checking to see who bib #44 was. Timm started off the day running a 4.68 40 yard dash, and a 4.47 shuttle. The junior then caught my eyes during the position drill work. Benjamin was at home changing directions and making cuts and then accelerating to top speed. He capped his day off making multiple nice wins in one on ones. Timm was a mismatch for the LB group. He ate up cushion, ran away from them in the open field when he went deep, and that change of direction again shined while route running. Check out one of his highlights from the event below.
The 5’11” 185 lbs sophomore tested well to start the day. He had one of the top 40 times with a 4.72. Garrett was a new athlete for me, so I took his testing results, showcase notes, and went to check out his film to see what type of player he was at this point in his development. His recent film is from his freshman year, but it matches what I saw in person. Dreger is a one cut runner who wins with vision and instincts over pure elusiveness and change of direction. His long speed allows him to stretch defenses horizontally and vertically. Half the rushers who produced more than him in 2022 graduate, so I’m excited to see the role he takes on as a junior.
Cayden continued to excite me for this fall with his performance on Saturday. He checked in at 5’9″ 195 lbs, and that compact frame comes with the power and balance through contact. That always stood out on film. What we got to see on Saturday that we haven’t gotten to see is his receiving abilities. Cayden proved that he can be used out of the backfield on short/ check down routes. He caught the ball with his hands, not his body, and he also made some catches through contact. It was a solid overall showing for the sophomore.
Highlights
The very first RB who caught my eyes was the freshman running back out of Arrowhead High School. The 5’6″ 165 lbs athlete was a ball of muscle, and it translated into a 4.72 40 time and an 8’7″ broad jump. Rep after rep he demonstrated the building blocks that can be molded into an exciting change of pace back. That was further exemplified in the one on one battles. Pres gave the LB group troubles. He accelerated and ate up cushion. He made some nice breaks to open up separation, and he plucked teh ball out of the air naturally. He is one to follow over the next three years.
Highlights
Jacari brought home MVP for the RB position. It wasn’t easy for the freshman to standout in a group well represented by the junior and sophomore class along with other impressive freshmen. Check out his full breakdown of his day in the MVP article HERE.
