Caleb Etchison
Etchison typically wins the leverage battle. Impressive contact balance for a smaller defensive lineman. Gets good extension with his arms to lock out opposing blockers. Pursues ball carriers with a strong motor. Suddenness allows him to threaten gaps, with the ability to skinny through and create disruption. Knows how to set up opposing blockers. Uses his hands better than most prospects, with his swim move being his go-to; does a nice job of varying his rush approach from snap to snap. Actively seeks out alternative lanes to the passer; also able to execute stunts and twists. Works in a promising spin counter. Gets his hands up to contest passing lanes.
Anthony “Ant” Davis
Anthony “Ant” Davis
Davis is a explosive, rangy athlete with the speed to play sideline to sideline. Generally plays with a patient approach but can be decisive. Good suddenness to knife through congestion and into the backfield. Gets good extension to play off of blocks. Able to chase down runners in backside pursuit. Impressive athleticism gives him considerable potential as a coverage linebacker; typically shades over in zone and closes fast when delivering a hit on an underneath throw. Gets out to the boundary quickly to defend the screen game. Davis can also spy the quarterback, showing his burst downhill when opposing passers flee the pocket.
Whittington releases well at the line of scrimmage against press coverage; does a good job of winning at the snap and keeping opposing corners in his hip pocket. Hides his hands when the corner’s back is to the ball. Size and length give him a massive radius, and has impressive flexibility to adjust to throws away from his frame. Able to climb the ladder and win over the top. Does a good job of drawing flags from opposing defensive backs down the field. Works back to the football when targeted on curls and other routes of that nature. Shows a good understanding of positioning as a blocker, working from a stable base and using his length.
Cocchiara shows impressive acceleration and top-end speed, creating opportunities underneath. He run routes to the intermediate/deep levels, but there are hitches, jerk routes, etc., mixed in underneath as well. Cocchiara has clean footwork to release at the line against press. Attacks leverage as a route-runner. Doesn’t need to shift down much through the stem and can be difficult to stick with on overs and other patterns of that nature. Settles down into soft spots in zone. Overall flexibility looks good. Shows impressive focus and body control to come down with catches in traffic. Makes solid adjustments to throws away from his frame.
Zach Weeks
Zach Weeks
Weeks is an excellent athlete with sideline-to-sideline range; works hard to pursue opposing ballcarriers. Great suddenness to sift through traffic and get to the ball. Typically able to run around blockers, but shows good extension and a better-than-anticipated anchor when taking on opposing linemen. Has quick feet and is rangy when making drops in zone coverage. Can stick with opposing receivers/tight ends down the seams. Easily athletic enough to carry opposing backs into the flats. Closes quickly when working as a spy.
