Continue ReadingFossung does a nice job of locating the ballcarrier. Gets good extension to lock out defenders. Anchor strength is solid, with at least adequate balance. Length gives him a solid tackling radius; flashes some ability to make tackles while engaged. Ability to shed blocks is above-average. Overall flexibility and bend as a pass-rusher is solid. Active with his hands. Shows some ability to set up opposing blockers. Shows a solid motor in pursuit, and above-average closing speed.

Smith runs with good knee bend and a low center of gravity. Has quick feet and makes clean cuts in the backfield. Makes solid decisions, showing good vision and patience. Possesses good burst in the hole and wastes little time hitting the line when the blocking is there. Smooth accelerator on outside rushing attempts, with above-average top-end speed. Smith very flexible, elusive player in space; difficult to bring down in one-on-one situations when he gets to the outside/second level, making sharp cuts and showing impressive stop/start skills.

Justen Hill
Hill has functional strength that commensurate with his size. He consistently walks back single opponents with his bull rush, showing violence and reliable leg drive after engaging. Anchor is excellent. Draws a lot of double-teams from opponents and is nonetheless able to hold his ground; also shows some ability to squeeze through double-teams and create disruption in the backfield. Able to control and discard blockers when needed in the run game. Scrapes down the line with his shoulders square. Shows the ability to make tackles while engaged.

Jamar Owens
Owens plays with aggressiveness, decisiveness, and physicality. He’s a fast, explosive athlete with fluid hips; flies around the field and can carry receivers deep from man, or get out to the sidelines and provide help over the top in high zones. Quick transitions from backpedaling to driving on a spot and can deliver hits to jar throws loose or make quick tackles after the catch on routes breaking over the middle of the field. Very willing in run support and can help set the tone defensively.

Jay Varner
Varner is a very smooth mover who was frequently asked to execute blocks on the move or in space and does an excellent job of lining up defenders and engaging with form. Can pull across the line and smash defenders in the hole or at the second level. Has the short area quickness to cross a defender’s place and seal them off from the play direction. Gets downfield and disrupts opponents on chunk plays. Overall contact balance is solid. Shows the ability to chip one defender and climb to the second level. Works well on double teams. Protects the edge with knee-bend and light feet, showing above-average lateral quickness.
