Film Review Under-Recruited 2024 Defensive Backs

For this article, I am focusing on under-recruited defensive backs in the 2024 recruiting class. The talent in Pennsylvania goes very deep and defensive back is no exception to the rule. Check it out below.    Carme Metcalfe Penn-Trafford. Metcalfe played defensive back and wide receiver for Penn-Trafford last year. At wide receiver, he was very good on contested catches. He can go up and make difficult plays in tight coverage. He runs good routes and when he gets into open space he can make people miss. On defense, Metcalfe played cornerback and safety. At cornerback, he showed the ability to cover in man-to-man defense and deep coverage. At Safety, he did a nice job covering deep, but also providing run support. Metcalfe even played some wildcat QB for Penn-Trafford. He is a good athlete that should only get better.    [player_tooltip player_id='280353' first='Raytel' last='Bryant'] Harrisburg. Bryant played cornerback for Harrisburg last year. At cornerback, he is a very good man-to-man cornerback. He is good in press man-to-man coverage or off-coverage. When he is covering receivers in man-to-man coverage he shows the ability to get his hands on the wide receivers and disrupt their routes. He is a good athlete and he can run with good receivers. He also has good ball skills and the ability to make plays on the ball when it is in the air. Finally, Bryant is a good tackler. He is not afraid to come up and make difficult tackles. Bryant is a good cornerback who should get some College Football offers.    [player_tooltip player_id='377495' first='Seth' last='Bowman'] Central Dauphin. Bowman played cornerback for Central Dauphin last year. Bowman is a good cornerback who does a nice job in man-to-man coverage. He has good coverage skills, especially at making plays on the ball. He also is a playmaker in that he creates turnovers by stripping ball carriers of fumbles and intercepting quarterbacks. He is also good at playing deep coverage and making plays on the ball. He is also a good tackler and especially does a good job tackling ball carriers in space. Bowman has good skills and should only improve going forward.    [player_tooltip player_id='558360' first='Nolan' last='Coen'] Parkland. Coen played safety for Parkland. Coen is a really good tackler from the safety position. He has the ability to tackle in the open field and in a crowd. Plus he tackles well in space. Coen also showed the ability to play a deep safety position where he is good in coverage. Coen also showed an ability to play close to the line of scrimmage and makes plays from that safety position. Coen has good ball skills and makes many plays in coverage breaking up passes. Coen is a good player who makes a lot of plays at safety.    [player_tooltip player_id='281267' first='Mekel' last='Smallwood'] Cheltenham. Smallwood played safety for Cheltenham. He is a hard-hitting safety who makes many plays all over the field. He is very good at recognizing the play and coming up to make the play. He is very good at tackling. He can tackle in the open field, and closer to the line of scrimmage. He excels in both areas. Smallwood also has good coverage skills and does a nice job dropping deep in coverage and making plays on the ball. Smallwood missed some games with injuries but flashed a lot of potential at safety.    Amir Ware North Catholic, Ware played cornerback and running back for North Catholic last year. At cornerback, he does a nice job in coverage by running with wide receivers and then making plays on the ball. He is athletic to run with wide receivers and then can intercept passes thrown his way. Once he gets the interception he can then make a big play on the return. At running back he hits the hole well and has good speed to run by defenders. He is also a physical runner and does not go down after the first tackler. Ware is a good prospect that should only get better.
