Continue ReadingTexas talent is arguably second to none when it concerns the gridiron. Top to bottom and position to position, Texas talent has proven over and over again to produce quality as well as quantity. When you account for the lack of a true Winter season and a statewide culture called “Friday Night Lights”; student-athletes fall in love with the game from an early age. Let’s take a deeper look at a few of those athletes.
RUNNING BACK •5’11” | 210 LBS I CLASS OF 2024 @ LUFKIN | LUFKIN, TX
The perfect combination of elusiveness and power; Kedren Young Kedren Young 5'10" | 220 lbs | RB Lufkin | 2024 State TX is one of the best three-down running backs in the country. Young runs behind a low pad level and is rarely found falling backward. He possesses great leg drive for short yardage and outstanding burst through the holes to go from cloudy to clear. Look for Young to rack up major stats for his senior campaign with his ability to handle the workload as the Lufkin Panthers bell cow back in 2023. Texas Tech is considered the favorite by some but
STRONGSIDE DEFENSIVE END •6’5″ | 260 LBS I CLASS OF 2024 @ OAK RIDGE | CONROE, TX
Joseph Jonah-Ajonye Joseph Jonah-Ajonye 6'4" | 275 lbs | DL Conroe Oak Ridge | 2024 State TX is a specimen. Ajonye has an NFL body already and he is just a junior. He is powerful with a great get-off. Active hands make it almost impossible for offensive linemen to get hands on to seal he out of the passer box. Do not be surprised with Ajonye’s natural size and power if he winds up playing every position along the defensive front. Stock up on this man-child. Texas Tech is in hot pursuit of his services but the rest of the country might have something to say about where he calls home after his senior year.
PRO STYLE QUARTERBACK •6’5″ | 200 LBS I CLASS OF 2024 @ CY-FAIR | CYPRESS, TX
Trey Owens Trey Owens 6'4" | 200 lbs | QB Cy Fair | 2024 State TX is a throwback to the Tom Brady and Peyton Manning pro-style quarterback era. Owens stands tall in the pocket and has great footwork for positioning himself to deliver the ball into narrow windows. Owens has shown the ability to scramble but prefers to stay in the pocket and deliver the ball to playmakers. Tough as nails when taking a hit and seems to be a leader of young men by example in contrast to the traditional “Ra Ra” guy. Texas has secured a verbal commitment.
PRO STYLE QUARTERBACK •6’3″ | 210 LBS I CLASS OF 2024 @ MIDLAND LEGACY | MIDLAND, TX
Midland’s Marcos Davila Marcos Davila 6'3" | 205 lbs | QB Midland Lee | 2024 State TX is a special talent in the pocket. Film shows that he has mastered his programs playbook and the staff trust his judgment to complete passes within the scheme at all three levels. Davila is a strong built athlete with a cannon for an arm. Look for him to light up scoreboards in the fall as his recruitment continues to heat up. Purdue holds a strong commitment from the signal caller but look for universities that have long been aware of his passing abilities to come knocking before the ink has time to dry.
