Who are they? Let’s take a look…
Jamarion Williams – Appling County
A playmaking, shift runner from the small town of Baxley, Williams may bee a smaller back, but he’s quick, shows great footwork, and knows how to run with balance. He can pick up yards after contact and shows a great spin move as well, allowing him to elude defenders down the field. He’s tough to contain down the field and knows how to take off down the field once he gets into the second level. As a backup for Appling County last season, Williams still managed to rush for over 1,000 yards and fine the end-zone 14 times in 13 games. He scored in each of his last five games last year and should see his numbers improve even more as a lead back next fall as a senior. He’s quick and shifty, but he also knows how to run hard and finish his runs with power. He can lower his should and get tough yards when he needs too, making him one of the top overall backs in the area. Expect him to shine and help lead Appling County deep into the 2A playoffs in his final high school season.
Josiah Davis – Berrien
An explosive runner who can make plays in all three phases of the game, Davis proved as a junior that he’s without a doubt one of the top overall athletes in the area. He has plenty of size at 6-foot-1 and 180+ pounds and makes running the ball look easy. An impactful safety in the secondary, Davis is a true playmaker both on offense, defense, and special teams. He’s a special player with the ball in his hands with excellent burst and acceleration. He can make defenders miss as he can stop and change directions quickly. He picks up yards in a hurry and can make plays out of the backfield both at running back and in the passing game. The do-it-all player only carried the ball 104 times, but ended the season with 895 yards and 12 touchdowns, averaging an eye-opening 8.6 yards per carry. He has great vision, but he also has a nice blend of speed and power, allowing him to run through defenses with ease in South Georgia. He has easy D1 potential and has the potential to have a monster senior season in 2023.
De’Mar Riley – Berrien
Another outstanding junior back out of Berrien, Riley may be on the smaller side, but he’s a tough back for his size who can fly by opposing defenses. He’s a big play waiting to happen, and while he helped carry the load in the run game, the Nashville, Georgia native still had a very productive 2022 season last year, rushing for 886 yards and 14 touchdowns. He led the team in carries and rushed for an impressive 80 yards per game. He was a great option in the passing game as well, showing excellent hands in both the short and vertical passing game. His skillset allows him to make an impact in a number of different ways, and his versatility will be on display a lot next fall as a senior. In addition to making big plays running the ball last year, Riley also caught 15 passes for 277 yards and three more touchdowns. He lived in the end-zone last year and expected to have a gigantic senior season.
