Which 2024 defenders in Georgia continue to see their stock rise? Let’s take a look…
Trey Horne Trey Horne 6'3" | 180 lbs | WR Rabun Gap | 2024 State GA – Rabun Gap
A do-it-all athlete who can make big plays in all three phases of the game, Horne did a little bit of everything last season as a junior for Rabun Gap. One of the top overall athletes in the region, there isn’t much Horne can’t do on the football field. A natural with the ball in his hands, Horne is quick, elusive, and has breakaway speed anytime he’s given an opportunity to run in space. He’s excellent in the return game, and can line up at running back or wide receiver on offense. Either way, Horne is going to make sure he makes a big play. He has D1-caliber size and the junior film to back up his early offer list. Offensively, the 6-foot-3 180-pounder carried the ball just 57 times last year, but averaged an outstanding 9.3 yards per carry. He rushed for 532 yards on the season and was a touchdown machine, scoring 14 times on the ground. He also showed reliable ball skills in the passing game, catching 47 passes for 772 yards and seven more touchdowns. Defensively, Horne made 21 tackles and forced two fumbles. He currently holds offers from App State, Army, Boston College, among others.
Zach Jackson – Holy Innocents
An under the radar two-way player in Atlanta, Jackson is a dynamic wide receiver and defensive back who flashed big-play ability on both sides of the ball all season long. A long athlete with great ball skills, Jackson made quite a few highlight-type of plays last year. He’s a to-go option on offense when the Golden Bears throw the ball as he’s more often than not a mismatch in single coverage. He plays the ball well in the air and knows how to run a quick route as well. He makes it look easy, too. He’s a fun player to watch, and when the ball is in the air, he’s going to make a play. He shows natural instincts on defense and reacts quickly on the ball in coverage. He has a muscular frame at 6-foot-0 175-pounds, and he earned a new offer recently from Navy. He also holds offers from Wake Forest, James Madison, Duke, among others. He has the potential to have a gigantic senior season in 2023 and could see more offers come his way soon.
Kaleb Neal – Brookwood
Looking for a Gwinnett County defensive back with versatility, closing speed, and ball skills? Neal is your guy. Playing for an excellent Brookwood Broncos program, Neal was a true game-changer in the secondary last year, showing he’s a reliable weapon in the back end. He reacts quickly in coverage, reading the quarterback and getting to his spot in a hurry. Neal plays fast, and it really shows on tape. He’s a stout run defender as well, taking great angles to the ball-carrier and lot letting them get all the way outside to the boundary. He understands his role, and he always finds his way to the football. He’s a sure tackler, a hard hitter, and made his presence known all year long against some of the toughest competition in the state. He showed easy D1 ability last year as a junior and it’s led to offers from NAvy and Akron. Don’t be surprised if more offers come his way later this spring.
