The rest of the country opens its eyes wide when Texas football is brought into recruiting conversations. I will be taking time to visit with some of the Texas high school standouts by schools along with head coaches, and listing class risers along the journey. Let’s start first with the historical Jack Yates High School in 3rd Ward Houston, Texas. Under the leadership of young and fiery coach Rafael Thomas of Lufkin, Texas; the Lions made major noise in District 11-4A! Here is a list of four of the program’s game-changers who look to receive a significant bump in their recruiting stock this Summer. Remember that you heard it here first……

Scott had an amazing 2022 season leading the Lions to an impressive playoff birth as a part of district 11-4A in Houston, Texas. Scott’s rise comes from his suddenness that is shown on both sides of the ball as a linebacker and running back. Outstanding length and power should see him rise fairly quickly in the recruiting ranks due to tenacity and versatility; the hudl film will echo as much.

Brandon is an electric athlete that has been featured in the return game, slot receiver, and defensive back under Coach Thomas at Yates High School. Brandon amassed 26 touchdowns and 2100 all-purpose yards. Brandon’s to create havoc from ma variety of positions makes him a scheming nightmare and a swiss army knife of a ballplayer. Brandon is also a mainstay on the national 7v7 club Texas Stars under Mr. Houston “Mike West”. Further evaluations are as follows:
Jordan Andrus Jordan Andrus 6’4″ | 225 lbs | TE Jack Yates | 2025 State TX 2025/6’3 210/TE/Jack Yates High School, Houston Texas
Andrus is a dual sport athlete with great length, hands, and footwork. His basketball skillset is proving to be a huge asset when it comes to his special awareness, hand eye coordination, and leverage. Standing at 6’4 and weighing a lean 230 pounds makes it hard on smaller opponents to out talent Andrus on 50/50 balls or in the run game. Blocking seems natural to this big tight end and he doesn’t mind putting hands on the opposition while dropping in the hips and knees to drive them off the ball. Andrus was 2nd team Padilla Poll All-State Tight End and a district 11-4A state of Texas standout with the following extended evaluations.

Thomas is a shifty playmaker for the Lions with a knack for being in position to make a play whether it be on offense or defense. Coach Thomas relied heavily on Thomas’s football IQ and conviction to the scheme during the 2022-23 season. His athleticism along with his ability to be coachable should serve him well in his 2023 senior campaign and at the next levelr
