As one class graduates, the next senior class becomes the primary recruiting target from college programs. The class of 2024 has previewed elite talent among its ranks with players who have proven themselves as legitimate college prospects capable of playing at the highest level.
This article will briefly examine five wide receivers from the 2024 class who should be high on the recruiting boards, especially for the in-state programs.
Reese is a prospect whose recruiting stock is rapidly rising. He is a big-body receiver with outstanding athleticism and an impressive catch radius. His long strides and breakaway speed make him a deep threat who can stretch the field. He tracks the ball well and uses his physicality and hand strength to make tough catches in one-on-one situations and heavy traffic. Reese is a dominant competitor who also uses his physicality to block downfield, helping to earn offers from Nevada and Washington State.
Mellish is on pace to become one of the bigger sleepers in the class. He is still under the radar, but that does not mean he lacks the talent to become a solid prospect. He is a big receiver with excellent speed and reliable hands. His vision as a ball carrier pairs perfectly with his speed, making him a genuine threat when running after the catch. Mellish is an underrated prospect with the potential to become a significant pick-up, especially for an in-state program.

Wilt is another sleeper with the “wow factor” that programs look for in prospects. He converted from quarterback to the wide receiver position last summer and completed his first junior season as a primary target for his QB. His catch radius is extremely impressive, but his natural ability to use late hands and snag the ball at the last possible second makes him a must-know player. Wilt is a perfect in-state prospect with good size, impressive reflexes, and excellent hand-eye coordination.
Abeyta is an athlete who can do severe damage when the ball is in his hands. He is a tall receiver with track speed and can exploit slight creases in coverages to break one loose. His versatility allows him to fill various roles for a program on offense, defense, and special teams. Abeyta is a talented athlete who is still a low-flyer on the radar, making him a prospect to watch this year.

Phelps is another radar lesser-known player with a high ceiling. He is a speedy receiver who can get loose within the secondary and cause problems over the top. He does an excellent job at freezing defensive backs with his releases and moving them with the stem of his routes. His talents give him the advantage when in the slot, especially when matched against a linebacker. Phelps is a versatile athlete who can also line up in the backfield and be a dangerous running back, helping to make him a prime prospect for an in-state program.
