This series was very instrumental in discovering unranked prospects last off-season, and we’re excited to once again shine light on potential candidates for future rankings updates. The beauty of the Community Film Room is that it’s an opportunity to highlight a variety of talent ranging from different classification levels, graduating classes, and positions. Take a look at these five prospects featured in this first film session of 2023.
Class of ‘24
Isaac Martin – Hugoton, 6’3”, 200, QB
As of right now, Isaac Martin of Hugoton is one of Class 3A’s best kept secrets. That will not be the case come this fall though. Martin heads into the ’23 campaign coming off a breakout year in which he helped lead the Eagles to a 6-3 record. The 2022 season wasn’t his first at the varsity level, but it was his first as Hugoton’s starting quarterback. Despite his lack of experience under center, Martin developed well throughout the season, as Hugoton’s coaching staff was able to maximize his dual-threat ability. Hugoton’s play-action passing game allowed Martin to showcase his decisiveness and mobility. He was on time with his throws and could extend plays when faced with pressure. This resulted in Martin accounting for over 1,400 yards of total offense and 17 total touchdowns. He’s sure to be even better in his second year starting.
Hunter Mowery – Salina Central, 6’0”, 185, WR
In today’s game, it’s becoming more common to see freakishly athletic prospects at the wide receiver position. Hunter Mowery doesn’t exactly fit that mold, but that’s not a slight towards him. While he’s more of a possession receiver, Mowery is still a very underrated prospect out of the slot. His ability to get separation off the line is what sets him apart. Mowery’s footwork helps him get that initial step on defenders, and he then uses his body control to manipulate the opposition at the top of his route. He won’t necessarily burn defenses after the catch, but he can make a few defenders miss, which is how he averaged 15 yards per catch in 2022. Mowery was the Mustangs’ No. 1 target as a junior with a team-high 638 yards and eight scores. Folks should expect more of the same this season, but don’t be surprised to see him eclipse 1,000 yards.
Jeremy Colbert – Field Kindley, 5’8”, 150, ATH
Sometimes all a prospect needs is one opportunity to prove themselves. Jeremy Colbert of Field Kindley is a prime example of that. Due to some injuries in Field Kindley’s backfield in 2022, Colbert was given the opportunity to become their feature back, and he delivered with over 1,000 yards and 14 touchdowns. Folks may not be too familiar with him, but he’s one of the most explosive athletes in Class 4A. There’d be times last season where he looked bottled up, but then he’d squirt through defenders for big gains. Colbert would do most of his damage once he hit the edge. If defenses couldn’t beat him to that point, then he’d make them pay in the open field. After his performance last season, look for the Golden Tornadoes to use him in a variety of ways this fall.
Class of ‘25
Linkon Cure – Goodland, 6’6”, 205, WR
Up next is the lone sophomore from this group. There’s not much film out on Linkon Cure of Goodland, but he’s a prospect that should intrigue recruiters this season. Standing at 6-foot-6, his size alone will turn heads. His height could present many possibilities for him on the gridiron. With that length Cure could line up at defensive end, receiver, or tight end. Being a pass-catcher seems to be the likely option considering his athleticism. Just based off his film from basketball season, it’s clear Cure can be a legit threat in the red zone, and a prospect that can go up to grab the 50-50 balls. He has the potential to be a matchup nightmare, and if he’s able to add a bit more size, then good luck to defenders tackling him after the catch. Be sure to remember his name during the ’23 campaign.
Class of ‘26
Brody Litton – Beloit, 6’5”, 230, ATH
We’re wrapping up this first film session with a freshman that has the potential to make some noise in the coming years. Brody Litton of Beloit is another underclassman that doesn’t have much film from 2022, but Litton does however have film from his 8th grade season in 2021. He looked like he could’ve played in high school at that time. His primary position has yet to be determined, but given his size and play from his 8th grade year, Litton could flourish on the defensive line. While his skill set is still very raw, Litton makes up for it with his physicality and high-motor. Litton looks to be an exciting defensive lineman for the Trojans, and he’s not finished growing either. He may be 6-foot-5, 230 pounds right now, but he is sure to fill out as he continues to mature.
