Continue ReadingChange is inevitable when it comes to the recruiting world. Prospects are constantly competing against one another to claim the top spot in their respective classes. Which makes for some intriguing storylines during each rankings update. That’s the case for this upcoming senior class in Kansas. Much has changed since the December update, and we’re here to get you all caught up on the latest Top 5 prospects from the Class of 2024.
For those that have followed along with this class, four out of the five players will be familiar. But, one of the biggest changes made in this February update is the new top-ranked player. This seismic change comes after a current member of the Top 5 continues to draw national attention. In addition to there being a new No. 1, there is also now a new face at No. 2 overall. Check out this elite group of talent, and be sure to see the rest of the now 185 ranked prospects.
The stock of Michael Boganowski Michael Boganowski 6’2″ | 195 lbs | ATH Junction City | 2024 State KS has continued to soar since the end of the ’22 campaign. Boganowski joined the Top 5 in December after a phenomenal junior year, and now he’s reached the top of the mountain as the new No. 1 ranked player in our Class of ’24 rankings. The 3-Star recruit is now up to 10 Power 5 offers after the Tennessee Volunteers recently reached out to him. He’s also been recognized as the top upcoming senior in Kansas by sites such as Rivals and On3Sports. Boganowski is set to have a busy off-season ahead of his senior year, as he’s received several camp and campus visit invitations from a number of Power 5 programs.
Highlights
Now checking in at No. 2 overall is the top newcomer from this February update. Three-Star running back, John Price John Price 5’11” | 185 lbs | RB Blue Valley | 2024 State KS of Blue Valley, joins the Top 5 after bursting onto the scene in Kansas last fall. Price earned the lead role for the Tigers after transferring in from Lincoln College Prep (MO.), and immediately became an impact player for Blue Valley. He was recognized as a 6A All-State Honorable Mention pick after eclipsing 1,000 yards on 142 carries and punched in 12 scores. He’s been on the D-I radar for some time now, and currently holds offers from programs such as Iowa, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State. Look for Price to have a big season in year two starting for Blue Valley.
Even though DaeOnte Mitchell DaeOnte Mitchell 5’11” | 195 lbs | QB Wichita East | 2024 State KS slid two spots in this update, he’s still without a doubt one of the most talented prospects in this class. But despite consistently being amongst the top players in the Class of ’24, not enough recruiters are reaching out to Mitchell. It’d be wise for them not to wait too long. After earning multiple All-League and All-State honors the past two years, Mitchell asserted himself as a 1st Team caliber player during his junior season. He’s been one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the state, and is arguably one of the most efficient quarterbacks as well. He’ll likely generate some buzz this summer during camp season.
There’s been quite a bit of shuffling around within the Top 5 throughout the past three updates. BJ Canady BJ Canady 6’5″ | 250 lbs | DL Topeka | 2024 State KS is a prospect that’s been moved around within the group, and he sees another new rank, as he moves up one spot to No. 4 overall. Canady’s development has been interesting to follow. He’s been recruited as a defensive lineman since his sophomore year, but now he’s receiving interest as an athlete. Canady has shown he can be a two-way player; going back to his days as a quarterback. Given his size and athleticism, it would be interesting to see how Canady would fare at tight end as well. Topeka High’s coaching staff may experiment with Canady this season to create some mismatches.
Rounding off the Top 5 is Mr. 2K himself. Omari Elias Omari Elias 5’10” | 200 lbs | RB Kapaun Mt. Carmel | 2024 State KS is putting together quite the career at Kapaun Mt. Carmel. The 2nd ranked back is now a two-time 1st Team All-State selection, and he’s likely to hit a career milestone this season, as he’ll approach 5,000 career rushing yards. His physicality has been highlighted several times, and it was on full display this past wrestling season. Elias ended his junior wrestling campaign with a 5th place finish at the 5A state tournament. His potential is undeniable, and his development this off-season could lead to some offers during his senior year.
