Here are several defensive backs who fit that profile in the Class of 2025.
Pettaway transitions into his backpedal smoothly, he has the ability to flip his hips, turn, run, cut and stay engaged with receivers. He has a lean, stout build, with a long reach, that enables him to get hands on wideouts to knock them off of their routes. Pettaway plays the passing lanes with excellent eye discipline and his extended reach allows him to punch and rip at the football, to shut down passing windows. In run support, he comes up under control and is sure a tackler in the open field. Deyjohn has the traits that allows him to dominate the No Fly Zone and UNLV, Tulsa, Arkansas, Miami are schools who have offered recently that see him as a player who can come in an establish that mindset in a program.

Hawkins has the prototypical size and length that college programs covet at the cornerback position. He has extended arm length and he enjoys getting his violent hands on wideouts early, to reroute them at the point of attack. Maliek has fluid hips, he has clean footwork, he transitions into his backpedal smoothly and he has the ability to stay locked in at the hip with wideouts in coverage. Hawkins is a ferocious tackler, he comes up in run support under control taking proper angles and he lays the wood and lets them know about it. Hawkins patrols the No Fly Zone like a veteran. Maliek has racked up offers from Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas State but you can expect his stock to continue to rise heading into 2023.

At 6’2 170 pounds, Guillory is a big body, lengthy cornerback, who plays with a controlled aggression. He uses his extended reach to shut down passing windows and his closing speed is exceptional, which allows him to get his hands on the football routinely. Courtland’s footwork is clean, he flips his hips fluidly and his ability to plant, cut and turn enables him to be in position to make plays on the football routinely. Courtland is a multi-sport athlete, who excels on the basketball court and burns up the track for Klein Oak as well. Colleges should definitely get Guillory on their radar, as he has the traits that allows him to navigate the No Fly Zone and blanket wideouts in coverage. Heading into the fall season in 2023, Guillory is positioning himself to be a highly sought after cornerback prospect.
