The Big South is always highly competitive each year. With a lot of inner-conference rivalries, makes for a good season of football each season. That being said, the talent pool is always rich in this conference. There is always at least one or two teams competing for their Section Titles or making it to State. I decided to hit the Under the Radar Prospects for the Class of 2024. There was good amount of film out there, but hopefully this article gets more kids with film for the future. Check the prospects out below!
Noah Dahl (OL)- Blue Earth Area, Highlights
Dahl had a real good season at RT for the Blue Earth Buccaneers. Fitting the mold at the position with his height and size. After watching his tape, I’m thinking after a good offseason he’ll role through his Senior Season. His footwork is really impressive for a guy his size. He is very nimble on his feet and can quickly move into perfect position to make blocks. Quick off the snap, he keeps good pad level to win the leverage game up front. If he seals the edge, it’s game over for the defense, because that is going to be a lot space on the perimeter. Lastly, he does a good job not holding if he doesn’t win the hand battle.
Carter Ellis (LB)- Waseca, Highlights
Ellis is a kid you want to make sure you know where he is on the defensive side. Reason being, when he blitzes and gets through untouched, it’s going to be a long night for the offense. Once the ball is snapped, he is really quick to attack the gap and put pressure on the opposing backfield. His speed gets him to the ball in a hurry, if the QB doesn’t have his first read, odds are, he’s not getting the ball off. I like how he steps up and fills on run support, keeping a good pad level to take on blocks and breaking down and making tackles. Lastly, he does an excellent job dropping back in pass coverage and taking away the middle of the field.
Levi Pooley Levi Pooley 5'10" | 185 lbs | WR Fairmont | 2024 State MN (WR/DB) Fairmont, Highlights
Pooley showed he was a big play receiver this season. With his smooth running form, he accelerated to full speed and got behind the defense. He had good timing on his routes because his QB hit him in stride most of the time. Once the ball was in his hands, he was one hard kid to catch. His sideline awareness was impressive, both running routes and catching the football. The vision he showed on punt returns were a big reasons he could break loose at any time. On the defensive side, he used his speed to lock down opposing receivers. Whether needing to run with guys, or jumping short routes, he was going to make the play.
Jackson Melcher (OL/DL) Pipestone, Highlights
Melcher plugged right in to both the offense and defensive schemes this season. His first year of varsity action, he showed no signs that he didn’t belong out there. Starting at DE, he knew his role on each play and executed it to perfection each time. Really showing his muscle engaging blocks and making tackles in the backfield with good form. Showing his awareness, he did a great job sniffing out screens and taking on pulling blockers to perfection. Offensively, plugging in at Guard, he did an excellent job giving the offense that strong puller with some sneaky speed.
Karson LaCanne Karson LaCanne 6'0" | 165 lbs | WR Windom | 2024 MN (RB/LB) Windom, Highlights
LaCanne had a breakout season as a Junior. In a spread offense that likes to air it out, he gave them a good weapon in the passing game. With his speed, he can get to full speed and leave his defender in the dust. Once the ball was in the air, he did an excellent job being a good target for his QB high-pointing the football and coming down with it. I liked how he gave a scrambling QB a good target and made the catch to extend the play. Defensively, he played extremely well on the perimeter. Running with his receiver and locking him down in man coverage, or coming up and making a sure tackle in the short game.
Joshua Bosacker (LB) St. Peter, Highlights
Bosacker is built like a good LB/Nickel type defensive player. His height and frame puts him in a good position at OLB. Adding in his speed and physicality and he does really well at the position. Watching him blitzing from the outside with speed is a lot of fun to watch. He attacks the gap and runs through any blocker in his way to the ball. Seeing a good football IQ sniffing out a play action and getting the QB before he can turn around, as well as forcing fumbles when he gets the opportunity. Lastly, he does a great job dropping back and taking away the passing lanes on the outside in the flats.
