On the defensive side, whether lined up against a center or as an edge-rusher, you better be quick off the ball.
The following scouting report featured five linemen from the Kansas 8-Man ranks. All of them are scheduled to play in either the 8-Man DI or DII All-Star games to take place in Salina in June. At the time of the report, only one of them has signed to play collegiately while the other four are still looking for places to continue their playing careers.
Austin Bailey, G, 5’10”, 265, Lebo
As I watched Bailey’s Hudl highlights the first name that came to me was Charles Barkley. The “Round Mound of Rebound” just popped into my head. This young man is a compact football player, who can flat-out get off the ball. The defense might be the best side of the ball for him, but oh my, I’d like to see him as a pulling guard in an 11-man contest. He has signed to play with NAIA school Ottawa University. He is scheduled to participate in the K.E.M.F.A. 8-Man All-Star game in June.
Gustavo Portillo, C, 6’0”, 245, Macksville
Portillo is a workhorse. He is big, strong, and protects his quarterback. He played center and nose guard for Macksville. With his size, he projects as more of a tackle in my eyes. He is scheduled to participate in the K.E.M.F.A. 8-Man All-Star game in June.
Brady Roblin, C, 6’1”, 230, Argonia Attica
Roblin is quick for a lineman. He played center and defensive end for the Bulldogs. His upper body strength gives him a solid edge, and he has a quick first step. He is scheduled to participate in the K.E.M.F.A. 8-Man All-Star game in June.
Josh Hildebrand, DL, 6’6”, 210, Stafford
Hildebrand is just a gifted athlete. He could play multiple sports and multiple positions in each. On the gridiron, he could be an OT, DE, DT, or TE. He has that special combination of size and speed. He is scheduled to participate in the K.E.M.F.A. 8-Man All-Star game in June.
Kael Marquis, G, 6’0”, 195, Pike Valley
Here is another player scheduled to put his skills on display in the K.E.M.F.A. 8-Man All-Star game in June. Maquis starred on defense for Pike Valley playing linebacker. Yet again with his speed and agility, he looks like he could be a run-blocking, pulling guard in college. This kid likes to hit and knows how to so he could play an immediate role on special teams.
