But many college football coaches know exactly who he is.
Gonzales-Roman, a 2023 wide receiver and defensive back for Alamogordo, is currently choosing between more than a dozen offers, earning him the title of ‘King of Offers’ in New Mexico for the 2023 class.
His lengthy offers list includes Western New Mexico, Peru (NE) State College, Minnesota-Morris, Culver-Stockton, Ottawa University Kansas, McPherson College and Graceland University.
Gonzales-Roman told Prep Redzone that he has also been talking with Eastern New Mexico coaches, and an offer from the Greyhounds could be coming soon. NMMI is an option as well.
“It’s a blessing to have this many opportunities,” Gonzales-Roman told Prep Redzone New Mexico. “It’s honestly pretty crazy to sit down and think about. I walked off the field (after my last game) thinking I wasn’t going to have the opportunity to play at the next level, let alone have any offers. It’s truly a humbling experience and I’ll forever be grateful for it.”
The 6-foot-2 Gonzales-Roman eyes a decision by the end of March. Cost of schooling and his relationship with the coaches will be the key factors in determining where he ends up playing his college football.
“How special the coach made my recruiting experience will be important,” he said. “I want to feel at home with my team and the university.”
Gonzales-Roman made a significant impact on and off the field in the Alamogordo community. Last season he had 21 receptions for 300 yards on offense and made 35 tackles on defense. He was the leader for the Tigers’ secondary and was responsible for making sure everybody was lined up properly.
He earned Second-Team All-District honors in a district that included three Las Cruces schools, Hobbs and Carlsbad.
“So proud of this young man. He has been an outstanding representative of this football program over four years,” Alamogordo coach AJ Cisco wrote of Gonzales-Roman on Twitter. “He is gonna do great things in college. Coaches, he will benefit your program the moment he steps on campus.”
