A player’s recruiting influences their position in the prospect rankings, but it is extremely rare for rankings to affect recruiting.
A good way to help an athlete gain attention and raise their prospect value is to attend college camps, have well-structured film, and be a proactive communicator via Twitter, email, text, etc.

Continuing with the 2024 rankings coverage, players who possess the ability to stand out in multiple positions on offense, defense, and special teams tend to get labeled as athletes. This article will highlight five athletes capable of bringing something special to a college program.
Olsen is a rankings newcomer on the verge of becoming a breakout college prospect. He has a top-end speed that allows him to out-stride his opponents and either break away from defenders or track down ball carriers. He is a physical athlete with the ability to power through contact or lay a hit stick. His ability to know where the ball is at all times allows him to get a hand on it to force incompletions and takeaways. Olsen is a true do-all player who finds ways to dominate on defense and offense, giving him the potential to become a serious problem for opponents at the Division I level.
Nicholson is an electrifying athlete with lightning speed and outstanding instincts. As a defensive back, he uses fluid hips and unmatched explosiveness when changing directions and making plays on the ball in the air. His elite speed and ability to change direction on the spot make him an inescapable cornerback and a nightmare offensive skills player. His versatility enables him to be explosive coming out of the backfield as the running back or off the line as a slot receiver. Nicholson is a phenomenal athlete who is dangerous when in open spaces with the ball, making him a prime candidate for a team in need of special teams superstar.
Meehan is a talented player with a high ceiling on pace to have a breakout season. While biding his time to become a varsity starter, he put his excellent talents to great use at the JV level and set a high bar for what to expect on varsity. He spent most of the postseason as an EDGE defender where he was able to consistently bring pressure into the backfield by using his speed to fly past tackles. His speed and athleticism enable him to chase down quarterbacks and running backs to force the offense to have negative plays while giving his team opportunities for takeaways. Meehan runs the ball with the same speed, power, and toughness that he uses on defense, making him a must-watch prospect this fall.
Hungate is an extremely talented player with outstanding instincts and a ton of raw athleticism. He has explosive acceleration with an overall speed that appears to have an extra gear. He is the ideal skill player who has ball-hawking skills and the physicality needed to come downhill and initiate contact as a defensive back. When lined up at receiver, his height, speed, and athletic catching abilities make him an ideal target for quarterbacks. Hungate has all the makings of a legitimate sleeper with serious potential to be a highly-touted college player.
Guevara is another blazing-fast speedster who can come out of the backfield and use his acceleration and overall speed to get the edge and be off to the races. His vision allows him to identify and attack cutback lanes to exploit bad angles and poor pursuit techniques by the defense. He is an ideal special teams prospect because of his speed, elusiveness, and overall physicality. Guevara’s skills are not exclusive to the offensive side of the ball, his physical playing style and ability to run with any receiver make him a reliable corner who can play from the nickel position, making him another rankings newcomer to know.
