Continue ReadingNortheast Ohio will be treated to some of the best talent at the running back position in the state of Ohio in 2024. Featuring explosive players with next level talent, the future stars on Saturday are taking this offseason to build on big junior campaigns and here are the five best ready to make a mark in their senior season.
Tanelle Rose Tanelle Rose 6’0″ | 185 lbs | RB Brush | 2024 State OH possesses superior patience and timing when reading what the defense is giving him behind the line of scrimmage. Running plays out of an option offense, Rose positions himself in the right spot to aid the offense and has the speed to finish plays off in the open field. Able to find cracks in the defense, Rose is able to turn on the jets and use elite quickness to find the next level. Combining his patience and burst, Rose is a hard target to bring down with his 6’0 and 185 pound frame so one tackler is rarely able to get the job done. Recently earning his first Div. I offer, if Rose can build off his junior campaign then expect more schools to come knocking.

Making an impact on varsity for the past two season, Jakorion Caffey Jakorion Caffey 5’11” | 190 lbs | RB Avon | 2024 State OH is a five-tool player that can do it all. Earning second team all-Ohio honors on a perennial Division II power, Caffey does all the little things on top producing numbers at a high level. Never shying away from contact, Caffey knows and fills his blocking assignments with a bang. An option in the passing game, Caffey has strong hands and can make plays in open space with the football. Maintaining a low center of gravity through the hole, Caffey has the ability to cut with great balance or rumble through a defender to eahe hard yards. Able to finish off plays, behind a dominating offensive line Caffey finishes off plays in space with a high motor. Caffey is on the radar of several Div. I teams and has a chance to build on a legacy he has already made.
A power back with good balance and one-cut ability, Ryan Powell Ryan Powell 6’0″ | 210 lbs | RB Warren Harding | 2024 State OH is coming off a season where defenses had to game plan around him. Breaking through arm tackles with ease, the power of the 220 pound back could be seen in short and long yardage situation. HItting holes at full speed, Powell hits like a runaway train and requires multiple defenders to bring down. A one cut back that gets up to top speed quickly, Powell is quick to make it to the second level where he can barrell forward for chunk yardage. While power is his most prominent skill, Powell has the speed to find the edge and move the ball upfield. Combining his speed and strength has Powell offers across the country in Div. I football.

Sean Martin Sean Martin 6’0″ | 175 lbs | RB Cleveland Saint Ignatius | 2024 State OH is as dangerous as they come in the open field. Making his mark as an elite defender playing one of the toughest schedules in the state, Martin makes the most of his carries by utilizing his next level speed. Playing on both sides of the ball, Martin displays his high football IQ to find gaps in the defense and extend running plays further than many backs. A downfield runner, Martin dazzles with his 4.5 40-yard dash speed. Martin efficiently works well in the run and passing game on a regular basis putting in his reps all over the field. If Martin can get the edge on a defense, the play can quickly end with him in the endzone as Martin tallied nine scores in his junior campaign. Getting the attention of several Mid-American Conference teams, Martin can shine on both offense and defense.

DJ Williams DJ Williams 5’10” | 195 lbs | RB Austintown Fitch | 2024 State OH has big play ability any time he touches the football. A well-rounded back, Williams does it all and gives his all every play. When his number is called in the passing game, Williams is there with soft hands. If he needs to get his hands dirty in the blocking game, Williams can deliver with good form that provide protection and can extend plays. Perhaps what Williams does best is let his instincts dictate his game. Knowing when to cut, when to show patience behind his line or when to hit the gas, Williams makes the most out of each carry. Keeping his feet under him, Williams has steady balance thanks to a strong trunk that has college coaches noticing. A three sport athlete, Williams has three Div. I offers already and is toning his athleticism with no offseason from competing.
