All of the former teams who called the region home were moved into Region 9, and several teams from the 5A classification were reclassified into 4A. Region 10 features teams from the old Region 6, 7, and 8. With so many new teams facing off against each other, Region 10 will surely be one of the state’s most thrilling races come October. We wanted to give each team their do, so we broke our preview into two parts.
Park City Miners
The Miners reclassify down to 4A after being one of the top teams in 5A for most of the high school season. Park City was 7-2 in the regular season, with those two losses coming against East and Brighton. The Miners would win their first playoff game against Timpanogos but fall to Lehi in the second. As they move into Region 10, Park City should not only be considered one of the favorites to win the region but the state championship as well. The Miners welcome American Fork transfer quarterback Lincoln Jackson for the coming season. Jackson tossed four touchdowns in just the first half of American Forks’ playoff win against Mountain Ridge and is no doubt ready to lead Park City’s offense. Running back Mason Grover returns after putting up over 1,000 yards from scrimmage. The Miners’ defenses should be fierce again, with linebacker Carson Tabaracci leading the front seven. Head coach Josh Montzingo and his squad will be one of the primer teams in 4A in 2023.
Stansbury Stallions
The Stallions had the state’s most productive offenses in 2023. Stansbury was the only team in the state to score over 600 points on the season and over 350 in region play. The Stallions were a perfect 12-0 heading into their semifinals game vs. Lehi. Stansbury would be held scoreless for the first time this season as they would go on to suffer their first loss. The Stallions now reclassify down to 4A, where they will look to once again be one of the state’s primer programs. Stansbury loses a lot of offensive production with quarterback Ezra Harris, running back Mateaki Helu Mateaki Helu 6'0" | 200 lbs | ATH Stansbury | 2023 State UT , and receivers Dylan Hamilton Dylan Hamilton 5'9" | 160 lbs | WR Stansbury | 2023 State UT and Brock Wilson all graduated. Quarterback Coleman Dearden and running back Luke Daynes will take over the reins for the Stallions after seeing limited action in 2022. Defensively Easton Baker Easton Baker 6'0" | 205 lbs | LB Stansbury | 2024 State UT returns as one of the top linebackers in Utah. Head coach Eric Alder and his Stallions should quickly retool and return to prominence this fall.
Murray Spartans
The Spartans had a rough go in 2022. Murray was 0-10 on the season and will look to get their program back on track in 2023. Head coach Todd Thompson and his team rerun running back Brock Perry, who averaged over four yards per carry last season. The Spartans will look to get their passing game going in 2023, with receiver Kayden Racine on the verge of breaking out. Linebacker Thanasi Johnson returns to lead the defense after registering over 45 stops on the season. The Spartans program needed a shake-up, and they’ll look to find more success in Region 10.
Hillcrest Huskies
The Huskies struggled to put it all together in 2022. Hillcrest finished 0-10 in head coach Brock Bryant’s fourth season with the team. Receivers Steven Hoskins and Meteo Paul both rerun after leading the team in receiving last fall. Defensively the Huskies had difficulty stopping the ground game or aerial attack in 2022 as they look to overhaul their defense. The move to 4A will significantly help the Huskies regroup and get their program trending back in the right direction.
