What can I say about this group of prospects? I believe this list has a ton of under the radar prospects with some just scratching the surface of their potential and others that I will love to see playing on Saturdays.
Jacob Mattick, QB, Coon Rapids (2024) Twitter
- I came away quite impressed on Jacob’s junior tape on how much depth is in his arm even when he’s throwing off balance, as this kid has more than enough arm strength to get it done when he’s on balance. He also has a well popped out quick release on intermediate routes as well.
- He also offers a ton of poise with his pocket presence and has some balanced fluid touch that he can use on all three levels of the field. The biggest development I believe Jacob can improve on going into this offseason and nis senior season is his mobility to improve his agility and a smoother balance when operating just outside of the pocket. Has some D2, D3 and NAIA interest brewing.
Hawken Hedlund, RB/LB, Eden Prairie (2024) Twitter
- Hawken does a great job with his power running ability thru high contact areas as you can tell this kid has built some durability in the weight room that creates a steady base for his athletic running ability. He shows off some effective agility as a one-cut running back, that although it won’t show off on tape as flashy, its tested well with his football IQ and vision.
- Hawken also has a well put together frame at 5’11 195 pounds, that very consistently on tape it takes multiple defenders to bring him to the turf. I look forward to watching Hawken grow swifter on that agility this offseason and improving his finished burst out more, although he already shows some great upside in both of those skillsets of what is to come. Super high academic prospect with just under a 4.0.
DJ Smith, WR, Moorhead (2024) Twitter
- I liked watching DJ’s accelerator amp up quickly once he gets into the second level of the field, as this 6’3 195 pound WR prospect shows off some solid footwork when working in high traffic areas. He also shows off a significant vertical as well as quite versatile patience in his plethora of skillsets.
- The twitch of agility DJ has off the top of his routes, show off a ton of athletic ability and I like the great hands this kid brings to the table at the next level as a longer WR threat that shows off some good route creativity. He certainly looks like a next-level prospect that shows great dependability and assurance of a WR that can go up and get it. He’s also a 3 sport athlete with a great 3.6 GPA.
Cam Hungerholt, QB, Leroy-Ostrander (2025) Twitter
- Last season, Cam broke out for over 1000 yards passing and rushing for the Cardinals offense, and I was impressed with his versatility he provided on tape with his legs and some long arm strength as just a sophomore You could tell based on his running ability, that Cam shows off some good length with his strides and has the built up stamina to finish off his run for six.
- Cam also shows off some slightly raw yet developing touch on his throws on intermediate routes. I also like Cam’s field awareness he has when he leaves the pocket with his legs, as he’s not a prospect that is going to flash you with tons of agility, but he’s strong with his fundamentals with his vision and has that chip on his shoulder to go to the field with some good angles to attack the linebackers and secondary with. Another high GPA prospect on our list with a 3.88 GPA
Ayden Gawtry, OL, Buffalo (2024) Twitter
- In my first look of Ayden, I was quite impressed with how elusive his hand-positioning was, as he has a quick trigger to react to the defensive linemen when he tries a swim move on him. He’s not the biggest center when it comes to his measurables but boy oh boy can does this kid have a solid finish in him which is something I track when scouting the hog mollies.
- Ayden also shows off a persistent pad-level that I caught from his reps and his has that rip ability on a bigger defensive tackle to punch him into the grass. He also has the quick footed footwork to multi engage which is another skillset I love evaluating on the OL. Highly academic prospect with a 3.95 GPA, which certainly might be why I love this young man’s football IQ.
Adam Fluekiger, DL, Monticello (2024) Twitter
- Right up the road from me in Monticello, is defensive linemen Adam Fuekinger who shows off some massive upside when he sheds off blocks in his 6’4 230 pound frame. This young man also has a gruelingly large motor that when he gets the chance to bull-rush when no one in front of him, it can be a scary scene of physicality opened up in the opposing backfield.
- Adam also impressed me with his superb ball instinct, and that remains consistent throughout his tape. The rep that impressed me most was when he strided low and under the offensive lines pad-level and used excellent balance to find the ball carrier in the backfield for a big loss after being on the 1-yard line, as his crunch time instinct was locked in. Adam is certainly a prospect that will play on Saturdays and I believe could have a big summer coming up at prospect camps in the Midwest.
