I can’t wait to see the ones I haven’t witnessed firsthand, in person. Let’s take a quick view at who this class has to offer at wide receiver.
Tye Madison – WR – Marion County HS
Madison shows a good understanding of holes in zone, often sitting in open space or varying his route speed to keep a passing lane open for as long as possible. He’s a true burner with legitimate track speed. Madison acceleration and speed make him a big play threat. He quickly erases the defensive back’s cushion in off-coverage and stacks defenders. His quick foot speed helps him fly into and out of cuts. Madison vision and speed make him a serious threat to generate significant yards after the catch (YAC).
Carson Gill – WR – Saraland HS / @CdGill_1
Gill does an excellent job of finding openings in zone coverage and he has fantastic spatial awareness. He’ll sit there and the quarterback will check it down to him if the other receivers aren’t open downfield. In addition to his elite spatial awareness, Gill has great hands. He is going to haul in anything that comes close to his catch radius. He is able to pluck the ball out of the air, go up and get the ball and can make catches on passes thrown behind him with ease.
Ni’King Patterson – WR – Valiant Cross Academy / @Official_niking
Patterson is one of the best at planting his foot in the ground and cutting or throwing in a quick juke after the catch. Patterson has excellent ball tracking skills and good vision to create after the catch. He has a quick release and a developed release package to handle various coverages.
Jquan Stewart – WR – Millry HS
Stewart boasts good size and a sturdy build with some additional room to add mass to his frame. He’s quick off the line, which helps against press coverage. Stewart displays good acceleration early in his route and is physical enough to battle through early contact. Stewart displays excellent ball tracking and body control. He makes catches outside his frame with natural hands and rises to meet the ball at its apex.
Tyseon Smith – WR – West Blocton HS
Smith displays excellent ball tracking and body control. He makes catches outside his frame with natural hands and rises to meet the ball at its apex. he does a great job of tracking the ball downfield and making some acrobatic catches. He is going to be a threat at all three levels because of his speed and ball tracking ability. Smith also displayed great body control on film. In terms of his YAC ability, Smith is solid after the catch. He has enough wiggle and speed to make defenders miss in space.
