Below, I wanted to focus on several players aligned all over the D line, who have not gotten the recognition their tape deserves.
Chance Rainey
Chance Rainey
Chance Rainey looks to help South Shelby build off of their first winning season since 2016. Chance is a two-sport athlete who is better suited to play defense at the next level.
Chance’s strength shows setting the edge in the run game and consistently putting ball carriers on their backs. College coaches will take note of Chance’s height and speed on display pursuing ball carriers from a backside outside linebacker alignment. Pass rush ability shows beating tackles with either power or finesse; Chance’s size & strength will have college coaches pleased, but not surprised, when he succeeds bull rushing small school linemen. Coaches will really be impressed when Chance utilizes his length and hand technique to win with speed off the edge.
Brody Kohler Brody Kohler 5’10” | 225 lbs | DL Pleasant Hill | 2024 MO looks to cap off a productive career at Pleasant Hill. Brody’s movement skills, hand technique, and anchor should have college coaches overlooking his lack of height to play inside at the next level.
Brody’s range shows shedding blockers and disrupting runs that are outside of his pre snap vicinity. Brody shows good natural instincts reacting to pressure and shedding blockers to get play side in the run game. College coaches will overlook his lack of height for defensive line when they see his lateral quickness off the ball and top speed in pursuit.
Kane Wilson
Kane Wilson
Kane Wilson is a productive end for Hannibal on both sides of the ball. Kane’s separation ability shows as a tight end; Impressive contested catch ability and athleticism shows running vertically up the seam. Kane’s offensive production gives him a chance to pick which side of the ball he wants to play on at the next level.
Kane shows good athletic ability shedding blockers and finishing plays before they hit the line of scrimmage; Defensive line coaches will also note Kane’s athleticism extending outside of his frame as a tight end. Kane’s get off and lateral quickness shows working speed moves off of the edge. Coaches like seeing Kane lead with his hands versus both the pass and run; Recruiters like Kane’s hand technique and will be sure to have their eyes on Hannibal to see his defensive development.
Hayden Shoemaker
Hayden Shoemaker
Hayden Shoemaker is Owensville’s starting left tackle and rock in the middle on defense. Hayden is a 285 wrestler and with the height to play center at the next level I am surprised he does not have any offers.
College coaches will like the next level range Hayden displays as a one technique making tackles near the sidelines; Hayden’s touchdown catches on middle screens is where coaches really will take note of his athleticism and interior versatility at the next level. Hayden’s eyes do a good job of finding the ball amidst traffic and backfield misdirection; Hayden’s good instincts and athleticism shown changing direction allow him to project to either side of the ball.
St. Mary’s comes in to 2023 as back-to-back state champions. With the departure of a few college-bound teammates on defense, Zamier Collins Zamier Collins 6’0″ | 235 lbs | DL St. Mary’s | 2024 State MO is primed to be one of the Dragons’ most dominant defenders.
Zamier’s instincts & quickness shows slipping blockers and disrupting inside runs from a backside end alignment. Good strength and physicality are on display shedding offensive linemen with ease and bull rushing as a pass rusher. Zamier’s pass rushing traits show utilizing lateral acceleration and a strong rip to beat offensive tackles to the inside. Zamier’s closing speed shows in the run game beating linemen to the point of attack untouched. College coaches are excited to see how Zamier finishes a championship career in 2023.
Anthony Thompson Anthony Thompson 6’1″ | 275 lbs | DL Parkway North | 2024 State MO has had invites to national combines and been in contact with MVFC schools according to his Twitter account. Parkway North returns in 2023 with a talented defense and recruiters will be sure to have Anthony Thompon’s name on their list.
Anthony’s range shows shedding offensive linemen and disrupting toss plays before they hit the line of scrimmage. Anthony’s strength shows in his anchor while his power is consistently knocking back offensive linemen into the path of pullers. Anthony’s quickness shows slipping guards to the inside versus both the run and pass. College coaches will be sure to notice Anthony’s next level range and keep eyes on him throughout 2023.
