The latest and final 2023 rankings on Prep Redzone Oklahoma were released on Monday with the Top 250 for the state’s 2023 class. Throughout the week, we’ll be breaking down prospects throughout the rankings. From stock risers and newcomers to breakdowns by positions, it will be a busy week! So keep it locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma throughout the week for more on the 2023 class. In this post, we’re putting a spotlight on five prospects that made significant jumps up in our final ranking update.
Broken Arrow offensive lineman Jamison Mejia Jamison Mejia 6’5″ | 270 lbs | OL Broken Arrow | 2023 State OK is the definition of a stock riser as he went from somewhat of an unknown prospect to a borderline top ten overall prospect and the second rated offensive lineman in about 12 months. We first got our eyes on Mejia around this time a year ago and you could see that there was a lot of promise in him but he was still filling out physically and continuing to mature. The next time we saw him in person was in the fall and it was very hard not to be impressed with the growth not only in Mejia physically but in his game. It looked like Mejia had spent the entire spring and summer in the weight room and he became an absolute monster during his senior season. Lining up at left tackle, Mejia was the cornerstone for the Broken Arrow offensive line that helped produce two rushers of 1,000-plus yards.
Highlights
Bethany senior and Oklahoma signee Taylor Heim Taylor Heim 6’4″ | 185 lbs | ATH Bethany | 2023 State OK was definitely in the discussion for being the most productive player in Oklahoma during the 2022 season. On offense, Heim impacted the game as a passer, runner and a wide receiver. On defense, he was one of the best ball hawks in the state from the safety position. And on special teams, Heim was a problem when you made the mistake of kicking to him. And despite all of that production, Heim still flew under the radar of major college programs until the very end. In January, Heim picked up an eye-opening offer from Oklahoma and he would eventually commit and sign with the Sooners. Heim is definitely a prospect who’s versatility gives him a very high ceiling moving forward. We very well could be looking back on this class four years from now and wondering why we didn’t have him even higher.
In the world of recruiting, the timeline has sped up so much that by the time a prospect enters their senior season, it’s pretty rare that they become a power five prospect if they aren’t already on that radar. But there are exceptions to every rule and Enid wide receiver Tykie Andrews Tykie Andrews 6’0″ | WR Enid | 2023 State OK proved that he is an exception with a phenomenal senior season. He was one of the absolute best and most productive wide receivers in the state. As we’ve written about before, Andrews was a wide receiver we knew about from his time playing 7v7 with Sooner 7 in the offseason but he became an absolute star as a senior. He made a stat line of ten catches, 150 yards and two touchdowns look routine every single week in 6A-1. Just like with Mejia at Broken Arrow, Oklahoma State jumped at the opportunity to sign this breakout star from the 2022 season.
Out of the five prospects on this breakdown, Owasso defensive lineman Tyler Rich Tyler Rich 6’1″ | DL Owasso | 2023 State OK was the first of the bunch that we got our eyes on. It didn’t take long for us to have a high opinion on Rich when he was just a young sophomore making plays on a very impressive Owasso defensive line unit. Rich had an outstanding high school career on the football field and on the wrestling mat. Rich is also part of the group of about five Oklahoma prospects that caught the eye of the new Tulsa staff and they went ahead and offered and Rich pulled the trigger on his commitment and ultimately signed with the Golden Hurricane. Rich is a very disruptive player along the line of scrimmage that knows how to get into the opposing backfield. The background in wrestling certainly helps him with leverage and knowing how to clog up a running lane.
Bixby defensive back Tyson Williams Tyson Williams 6’1″ | DB Bixby | 2023 State OK is another 2023 prospect that we caught relatively early on and he’s just continued to get better and better. We first caught Williams in action during the offseason following his sophomore year. He was a standout cornerback for Sooner 7 during the travel 7v7 season and it seemed like every time we watched Williams in person, he was locking down his opponent. Williams brought that same lockdown attitude to school ball with Bixby and was a critical part of their last two state championship teams. Williams was also a member of a Bixby secondary that was arguably the best in the state during the 2022 season. Williams is one of the best cover corners in the state and he has the production to prove it. The 2023 DB class in Oklahoma was arguably the best position group and Williams has been a star for a few years now.
