Updated 2024 Rankings: New Additions (Part 2)

Here are nine more New Additions to the list of the top rising seniors in the Land of Enchantment (listed in alphabetical order):</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='592012' first='Santiago' last='Chavez'], Moriarty</strong>: You now the No. 1 rusher on one of the top rushing teams in the entire state is going to be in the rankings. On a team that had FIVE rushers with 350+ yards in 2022, Chavez led the way with 917 yards and 10 TD on 147 carries. Three of Moriarty's top five rushers last season were seniors but the Pintos always seem to reload at the position rather than rebuild. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='425194' first='Manny' last='Fuentez'], Roswell</strong>: Fuentez was the quarterback for a prolific Roswell offense that scored 42+ points seven times this past season. But they didn't score so many points just by running the ball. Fuentez is a very good passer and the Coyotes took advantage of his skills.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='590710' first='Wesley' last='Gallegos'], Roswell</strong>: Gallegos earned 2^nd team All-State honors in the secondary. He helped spark a solid Roswell defense that didn't allow more than 14 points in 7 of the last 8 games. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='590702' first='David' last='Hammond'], Artesia</strong>: As we've said before, the Artesia defense was vastly underrated this past season because the offense scored so many points. Hammond is one of two Bulldog defensive backs to earn All-State honors. He had 48 tackles, 3 TFL and 1 INT for Artesia. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='592369' first='Jeremiah' last='Jaquez'], Hobbs</strong>: Replacing [player_tooltip player_id='137921' first='Kaden' last='Trevino'] as Hobbs' No. 1 wide receiver next season won't be easy but Jaquez showed in 2022 that he has the skills to do it, catching 42 passes for 679 yards and 9 TD. His best game of the year came against geographic rival Artesia in Week 2 when he had 7 receptions for 171 yards and 3 TD. After that, he settled in nicely as the Eagles' No. 2 WR behind Trevino. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='590180' first='Zachary' last='Markham'], Volcano Vista</strong>: the 6-foot-2, 250-pound Markham earned Second-Team All-State honors in Class 6A and he helped pave the way both pas blocking and run blocking. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='590197' first='Victor' last='Montiel'], Gadsden</strong>: Montiel is a BIG guy at 6-foot-6 and close to 290 pounds. Montiel was a major reason the Panthers were much improved this season and advanced to the Class 5A quarterfinals. We saw him live when Gadsden played at Los Alamos in the 1^st round of the playoffs and were very impressed with his mobility. He has big-time prospect written all over him. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='590312' first='Nathaniel' last='Perry'], Cleveland</strong>: Perry was a major factor on Cleveland's defensive line with 31 tackles and 4 TFL in 7 games this past season. Watch out for him in 2023 as the Storm strive for another 6A title. &nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='590308' first='Matthew' last='Saiz'], Artesia</strong>: Saiz made waves in Week 1 when he returned a kickoff for a TD in the closing seconds to lift Artesia to a 30-27 victory over Carlsbad in the Eddy County War. Saiz went in to enjoy a solid season with 662 all-purpose yards.
