Which players need more recognition?
Let’s take a look…
Kale Woodburn – Houston County
One of the fastest, most explosive receivers coming back next year in Middle Georgia, Woodburn was a big-play threat all season long for QB Antwann Hill Antwann Hill 6'4" | 215 lbs | QB Houston County | 2025 State GA Jr., and he turned in one of the most productive seasons for anyone in the area. He has game-changing straight-line speed and can score from anywhere on the field. He gets open down the field, knows how to bait defensive backs, and can fly past defenders with ease. He caught an impressive 67 passes last season for 1,044 yards and 13 touchdowns. He ended the season on a high note, catching 23 passes for 344 yards and three touchdowns over his final three games. He improved more and more with each game and should be tough to stop for opposing defenses next year. The Bears will have an explosive passing attack coming back in 2023, so expect Woodburn to have a giant final season at Houston County. He has a chance to be one of the leading Middle Georgia receivers in the 2024 class next year.
Carmelo Mays – Southwest
There’s plenty of under the radar talent in Macon from last year, and one of the breakout receivers to know in the area for 2023 is Carmelo Mays, a rising senior out of Southwest. An impressive route-runner with strong ball skills, Mays was tough to handle all year for opposing defensive backs and will be even better in his final season. In just 10 games as a junior last year, Mays caught 53 passes for 1,008 yards and 14 touchdowns, proving to be one of the best overall receivers in the Macon area. When the ball is in the air, Mays is going to come down with it. He averages an impressive 19 yards per catch, meaning when the ball comes his way, good things tend to happen. He’s looking to score every time he has the ball, and he can do it in a number of different ways. He’s a true breakout receiver to know who has a chance to earn some serious D1 interest this off-season.
Cam Flowers – Warner Robins
A new consistent receiver to know in Middle Georgia, Flowers showed excellent hands and breakaway speed this year for one of the top Middle Georgia programs in the state at Warner Robins. He’s a major weapon in the screen and short passing game due to his ability to make defenders miss and pick up yards after the catch. He has decent size, but his natural pass-catching ability and strong hands have made him one of the more dependable receivers in the area this year in the 2024 class. As a junior this year, Flowers has made 31 catches for 684 yards and 10 touchdowns. He’s an electric wideout who looks like he’s playing at a different speed. He can be a game-changer next year and should see more passes come his way as a senior in 2023. His 22 yards per reception was one of the best in the area, so look for Flowers to continue making big plays down the field in his final season.
