As I was going through the rankings, I made sure to check their Twitter accounts to confirm that they do not have offers. This article will highlight my top athletes that are yet to receive offers that graduate in 2023. This is completely my opinion on athletes I picked based on if I liked their films. If you feel like I missed you on this list I apologize, but here are my top picks below!
Julian Scott Julian Scott 5'11" | WR Rapid City Stevens | 2023 State – Rapid City Stevens WR, Highlights
Scott caught my attention last spring in track season when he had a very good State meet. I watched his highlights from his Junior season after and saw a direct correlation between the track and gridiron. Of course his speed showed on the track, but then really showed on the field. Screens, deep routes or slants, when he caught a pass, he had the chance to go the distance if he got up to speed. He also showed durability and versatility, running many races on the track in a short amount of time shows his pain tolerance he brought to the field, as well as his ability to hold speeds for a long time.
Aguer VanSickle Aguer VanSickle 6'4" | 235 lbs | LB Bridgewater-Emery-Ethan | 2023 State – Bridgewater-Emery-Ethan DL, Highlights
I caught VanSickle at SDSU’s prospect camp this last summer and in a field of many athletes, he stood out in competitions. He shows a lot of raw talent in the trenches. I like his hand technique when engaging his blocker, and how he gains control with his extension. His footwork worked well after he got his extension and he shed the blocks quick. I like his quick first step off the snap and how low he keeps his pad level through contact. His speed off the edge make it tough on the QB to get good reads. Lastly, his physicality with both blockers and ballcarriers through the whistle makes him a lot of fun to watch.
Ethan Hoffman Ethan Hoffman 5'11" | 170 lbs | ATH Flandreau | 2023 State – Flandreau ATH, Highlights
Hoffman jumped out at me on tape last season when he was a RB. This season he bounced around to many positions to be a weapon for the Fliers on both sides of the ball. Playing many snaps at WR, he got the ball in many different ways, and he took advantage every time he touched the ball. I like his speed, the way he gets to his landmark and explodes out of breaks for separation. Defensively, he played a good outfielder at Safety and never got beat deep. His speed helped him there to run down WR’s and make plays on the ball. I liked his pass defense technique, always in the hip pocket, not making too much contact and timing passes perfectly.
Braydon Simon– Deuel DB, Highlights
I’ve seen Simon’s basketball tape, he’s good at that too so this is more of a sales pitch for him as it is coaches. I caught him at Dakota State camp this summer and enjoyed watching him in drills. His change in direction is very quick and effective. When playing at Corner, he plays his position extremely well with his ball sense. He has very good vision is seeing every guy in his zone and sets himself up in the best spot to make plays. His footwork helps him turn and run with receivers, but also corral ballcarriers on the perimeter. He also has that football speed to run down the football or the receiver while the ball is in the air.
Jake Vanhout Jake Vanhout 6'3" | 280 lbs | OL McCook Central-Montrose | 2023 State – McCook Central-Montrose OL, Highlights
I saw VanHout’s size and thought I’d take a look at his tape. I liked the highlights as well, play from Linemen is very important. He knew exactly how to us his size in the trenches. I likes his first step off the snap, very effective to get himself in position to make a big block. Once he latched on to his block, VanHout was going to put him into the turf. His pad level was a little high, but no one guy was going to move him, or shake him once he got ahold of them. I liked his strength and his motor. He had the strength to knock down any D-Lineman and finished through the whistle each play.
