Elijah Weaver – Fannin County
A smaller quarterback in the 2025 class out of Blue Ridge in the North Georgia mountains, Weaver is one of the top young quarterbacks not only in North Georgia, but across the state in 2A. An efficient quarterback who does a great job of taking care of the football, Weaver didn’t throw it all over the place last year as a sophomore, but when he did throw it, good things happened. He has decent arm strength for someone with his smaller frame, and he was very productive when throwing to thee endzone. He threw for 16 touchdowns last year with just one INT, proving that he can lead a team without turning the ball over much. There were a few games where he didn’t throw the ball much at all, but as a junior next year, look for Weaver to take a big step forward and be one of the top junior quarterbacks in the 2A classification next year. He ended his sophomore season last year throwing for 1,206 yards along with those 16 touchdowns. He completed 67% of his passes and should see those numbers improve in 2023.
Caiden Tanner – Union County
Another North Georgia quarterback to know for next season, Tanner was one of the most productive quarterbacks across 2A last season and made big throws on a weekly basis all season long. An accurate quarterback who can also make plays with his feet, Tanner has a great junior season and led Union County to a strong 8-4 season. He brought a dependable passing attack on a consistent basis and found thee endzone plenty. As a junior last fall, Tanner threw for 2,893 yards and 24 touchdowns. The 5-foot-11 165-pounder was one of the top quarterbacks in all of North Georgia regardless of classification last year. He was accurate throughout the season, completing just under 69% of his passes. His best game of the season this fall came against Providence Christian Academy where he went 24/31 for 403 yards and four touchdown passes. Not only could he win games with his arm, but he also rushed for 284 yards and 8 more touchdowns on the season. He got better and better as the year went along and he’s bound for a gigantic senior season in 2023.
Gary Gaither – Spencer
One of the more underrated 2024 quarterbacks in West Georgia, the Columbus native is a big-time athlete who can make plays with both his feet and his arm. A multi-sport star, it’s easy to see his natural athleticism as he runs the offense at quarterback. He’s a natural playmaker who can make plays outside of the pocket and does a good job of reading defenses and finding open receivers down the field. He loves to push thee ball vertically, and if there’s an open receiver, Gaither is going to find him. He’s coming off an extremely productive junior season where he was one of the leading passers across the 2A classification. The 6-foot-1 195-pounder threw for 2,043 yards and 21 touchdowns on the season. He understands what he needs to do with the football, throws a catchable ball, and does a good job of leading his receivers to where they can run after the catch. If he continues to develop and improve his arm strength during the off-season, Gaither has a chance to have a massive senior season next year.
