Having an elite quarterback on any team could result in an overall improvement in the team’s success from year to year. At the Prep Redzone Next Midwest Camp, an elite group of quarterbacks competed to become the best in the region. With some of the best quarterbacks that I have had a chance to evaluate, here is a look at the Honorable Mention Quarterback group:
Killian O’Brien Killian O’Brien 6’0″ | 165 lbs | ATH Ashland | 2027 OH is another quarterback that caught my eye during camp. Coming out of the Buckeye State, Killian put together a strong camp with some stunning numbers. With his 4 breaking the top half of the quarterback group, and a smooth running in the L Drill, Killian proved that he can move well when his called to. During individual drills, Killian showcased several athletic assets that have proven to help him become the weapon that he is in the pocket. One of the first things that stuck out to me was his body control in the pocket. As Killian moved through the pocket, there was a very natural and smooth flow to his movements. Habits like this allow him to stay controlled in the pocket and help him make easy decisions as he spins the ball out to his wideouts. Another aspect of his game that I enjoyed watching was his reaction time, and the quick release in his throws. During the series of drills that Killian went through, he reacted to different targets quickly as he always kept his eyes downfield and his release time faster than most of the other’s in his group. Most importantly, Killian’s ball placement ability was incredibly impressive as he had no problem putting the ball exactly where his receivers needed it to be so they can haul the ball in on the run. Overall, everything Killian did impressed me and I would not be shocked if he continued to put together performances much like the one he put on at camp last weekend.

Another member of this group who really stood out to me is Jackson Smith Jackson Smith 6’3″ | 170 lbs | QB Lakota West | 2027 OH . As another quarterback coming out of the Buckeye State, his performance at the Prep Redzone Next Midwest Camp truly turned some heads. Jackson is a dual-threat caliber quarterback who can get the job done on the run or through the air. On the run, Jackson is a smooth and controlled thrower who has no problem finding his landmark and releasing a nice and easy ball to his targets. In the pocket, Jackson displayed a nice and easy release as he spun the ball out to his targets in quick game as well as medium to long range throws. Along with all of that, our quarterback coaches could not say enough about Jackson’s timing and footpace in the pocket. For as controlled as he is, it is clear that he was able to translate his ability in the pocket in strong clean passes. Jackson was another impressive member of this quarterback group. As he stacks more performances like this up, it won’t be long until you see his name on the top of almost every quarterback board in the country.

Woody Corey
Woody Corey
Woody Corey rounds out this Camp class with another really impressive performance. Coming out of the Hooiser State, Woody is a rare lefty quarterback who can sling the rock all over the yard. Trending towards the dual-threat type, Woody moves really well on the group and can spin about as good as anyone that I have seen in this class. In the pocket, Woody has smooth moving feet and phenomenal control over his body which allows him to stay poised and protected in the pocket. With strong ball security as a quarterback, I hardly ever saw the ball leave his frame until he was ready to fire the ball out to one of his targets. With his natural throwing motion and strong arm, Woody can place the ball just about anywhere on the field and allow his wideouts to go to work after that. Woody is another quarterback that I had the chance to watch with a huge upside. With his natural ability, Woody is not far off from being one of the best on the field. If he continues to follow the trend that he is on, Woody is going to be a top commodity in the recruiting world down the road.
