We watched close to 20 different teams this Saturday around the clock from 8 AM to 11 PM to find out which prospects came to play from Minnesota, Nebraska, and Iowa. We start off today with the first five standouts from Part I for the junior high divisions (12U and 14U). Let’s go!
Lawson Sullivan, QB, Level Up/Camanche, Iowa (2029)
- I liked watching Lawson’s precision he had with his Level Up wide receivers on short/intermediate routes in the early session of the My7v7 Midwest Legends Classic in Dundas.
- Lawson also showed a positive upside with his footwork, as I thought he carried them with quite good balance for his young age.
- He also showed fluid mobility by extending plays and throwing on the run without losing many touches on his ball within his throws. A younger 2029 QB should grow his skillsets nicely in that Level Up program that knows how to develop QBs very well. Hopefully, we will see a growth spurt for Lawson hit soon!
Barrion Simmons, DB, My 7v7/Maple Grove, Minn (2029)
- Barrion was the first prospect that caught my eye in the 8 AM games at the My7v7 Midwest Legends Classic, as he showed some good fluidity in his ball skills.
- Barrion also showed off the physicality from the top of the WR’s route by engaging in press-man coverage with a quick bump to get the wide receiver off balance early and showed that consistent nature throughout the game I watched.
- He showed off some solid instincts no matter where he was in coverage and showed some good change of direction skills to be the man to make a play on the ball wherever he lined up—bright up-and-coming future brewing for this young man out of Maple Grove, Minn.
Jahlil Clay, DB/WR, Iowa Flex/Cedar Rapids, Iowa (2029)
- Jahlil was named the MVP for the 12U division due to performing at a high level all morning long on both sides of the ball for Iowa Flex.
- Jahlil showed off some high-level consistency within his ball skills at the defensive back spot. His vision to get to the football was very clear-cut and consistent, having a great knack for football IQ on every rep I watched him take.
- Anytime in a big event like this when you can connect on our notepad multiple times for your skillsets on the field, you certainly are paving your way to a solid football future which is the case with Cedar Rapids 2029 prospect Jahlil Clay. I believe Jahlil will likely be an addition to our 2029 Prep Redzone Next Watchlist.
Grant Schribner, DB/WR, Nebraska Elite/Ashland, Neb (2030)
- Grant showed off some strong hands within his pass-catching ability, which is one of the reasons he is the only 2030 prospect on this first list from Saturday at the Dundas Dome.
- Going over to the defensive side of the ball, Grant showed off the ballhawk awareness instinct to a T, as he made several key plays with his big finishing motor to find the ball with ease with his vision well intact.
- This young man also has a chiseled frame, especially in his lower body, as that also really impressed me for his age playing up in the 12U division. High physicality prospect that should blossom onto our Prep Redzone NEXT Watchlist in the coming years.
Ty Turner, WR/DB, Level Up/Cedar Rapids, Iowa (2028)
- Ty has impressed us a ton in the last month or at the Level Up 7v7 tryouts and continued that on Saturday at the Dundas Dome.
- This young man has an outstanding vertical for his age and a massive burst to start off his routes. Ty also has the athletic instinct to grind up his game on both sides of the ball, as on one particular play I watched on Saturday, he used that full vertical I mentioned grabbing an interception and then very quickly took it the distance for a pick six in 7v7 football
- I love this kid’s potential and competitive nature, as I firmly believe he will have a bright football future in Cedar Rapids, with a great probability of playing on Saturdays.
