Continue ReadingMississippi Speed is a team that hails from the Delta of Mississippi. If you know anything about the Delta you know they produce some of the best athletes in the state. They also are known for having a lot of speed. My dad graduated from high school in the 80s and he is always talking about how guys from Cleveland and Greenwood were back then. This 7v7 team has been formed to help shine the light on the Delta skilled players. Let’s check out some guys that made the squad.
Patrick Broomfield, DB, Clarksdale, 2024
Broomfield is a guy that has been stepping up big for Clarksdale two years in a row. He is ready to get his recruiting process rolling. This offseason can help with that. Broomfield is going to be a top dog on this 7v7 defense. He can now face more competition. This will also allow him the chance to get his skills in front of more scouts and writers.
Derion Dillard, WR, O’Bannon, 2025
This is a guy who is long and attacks the ball well. He uses his length to his advantage to make plays on the gridiron. He is a prospect that will start to see some attention soon. Dillard will have the opportunity to make some plays for Speed 7v7 this summer. He is a decent route runner, but he could stand to gain more weight. I’m ready to see how he plays. I have heard a lot of good things about this kid. Let’s be sure to remember his name.
Chandler Wade, QB, O’Bannon, 2025
Wade is a very intelligent young quarterback. He also is more skilled with his legs than most people think he is. Kid has a nice arm. If he continues to train he is going to continue to develop. He is also very laid back. I think he has what he takes to make it on the next level. We’ll have to keep an eye out for him.
Jar’ketitus Davis, ATH, Northside, 2026
Davis is very quick, and can play offense and defense. He is going to be doing just that for the Mississippi Speed. He has very good speed. Davis also does a good job playing his assignment in zone or man coverage. He is a guy that has a chance to make a big name for himself these next three years. He also knows how to run decent routes. Kid has a lot of skills that if he continues to polish, they will help him go very far on the gridiron. I’m looking forward to keeping up with this kid.
John Howard, ATH, Bayou Academy, 2024
Howard is a very good athlete. He is another player that will be playing offense and defense for the Speed. He is going to be more on defense playing in the secondary. However the Speed coaches think he will find himself comfortable in the receiving room. He has one more year to do his thing on the high school level. I haven’t seen him play, but I’m ready to see what I have seen on film. This kid smoothly plays the game.
