We now enter a phase where we start to see junior colleges, Division 2, and Division 3 programs get into the act and hand out offers to athletes around the state. In this article, we begin to take a hard look at some promising prospects who either don’t have any offers yet, or will be waiting until the traditional signing day of February 3rd to put pen to paper.
Zion Gillard Zion Gillard 5'11" | 220 lbs | RB Richmond Hill | 2023 GA – RB – 5’11” 215 – Richmond HS / @Zion_Gillard
Quickness and vision are above average; has more of a finesse game than you’d think for a player with his size and is capable of shuffling into gaps and taking advantage of cutback opportunities when weaving through defenders. Uses hesitation well. When he sees daylight, overall burst is surprisingly good for a player of his size. Has pretty good build-up speed and can deliver some punishment when he gets to the second level.
James Tyre – QB – 5’10” 170 – Lambert HS / @thejamestyre
Relaxed footwork on his drops without a heel click. Gets the ball out on time in the quick game. Throwing mechanics look good, with a high release point. Looks calm under pressure. Doesn’t take unnecessary risks with the ball; knows when to hit a check-down or kill a play. Flashes the ability to make pro-style throws with anticipation; despite his lack of ideal arm talent, is a very good deep-ball thrower who gets the job done with touch, timing, and anticipation. Throws a catchable ball with appropriate touch, solid placement, and a tight spiral.
Owen Dupree – WR – 6’3″ 180 – North Paulding HS / @Owendupree2
Shows the ability to get into and out of breaks quickly, with a low center of gravity. Works back to the ball when targeted on comebacks. Excellent ball skills for a player of his size; compensates for only adequate height with his leaping ability and the consistency with which he high-points throws. Makes good adjustments to the ball when targeted away from his frame.
