We now enter a phase where we start to see junior colleges, Division 2, and Division 3 programs get into the act and hand out offers to athletes around the state. In this article, we begin to take a hard look at some promising prospects who either don’t have any offers yet, or will be waiting until the traditional signing day of February 3rd to put pen to paper.
Kaden Beard – RB – 5’10” 195 – Lanier HS / @sykadenn
Has a smooth game and is able to change speeds effectively. Shows adequate patience and vision to let blocking develop and recognize cutback lanes. Clean footwork when shuffling to find a hole, and doesn’t waste any time hitting when he finds an opportunity, showing adequate burst. Runs with a low center of gravity and appropriate knee-bend. Able to squeeze through pockets for yardage. Can slip by defenders in a phone booth. Runs through arm tackles in the open field.
Chris Elko – WR – 6’1″ 185 – Roswell HS / @ChrisElko6
Highly productive receiver who has shown that he can produce against a higher level of competition. Quickness and technique allow him to release better at the line than his size would suggest. Pretty quick accelerator who can eat up cushions and put pressure on defenders sitting in off-coverage. Excellent ball skills for a player of his size; compensates for only adequate height with his leaping ability and the consistency with which he high-points throws. Makes good adjustments to the ball when targeted away from his frame.
Garrett Young – WR – 6’3″ 185 – Alpharetta HS – @4gmanyoung
Shows the ability to get even with defenders on his release and works in a solid swim move; doesn’t seem bothered by contact when working against press. Understands the value of changing speeds through routes. Uses head fakes at the top of routes. Overall speed is at least adequate and is a smooth accelerator after the catch to rack up additional yardage. Physical and elusive after the catch, with the ability to make defenders miss and run through arm tackles. Tracks the ball well over his shoulder when working further downfield and shows nice body control and adjustments.
