We now enter a phase where we start to see junior colleges, Division 2, and Division 3 programs get into the act and hand out offers to athletes around the state. In this article, we begin to take a hard look at some promising prospects who either don’t have any offers yet, or will be waiting until the traditional signing day of February 3rd to put pen to paper.
Marquis Davis – DB – 5’9″ 170 – Carver HS / @Mjdavis23_
Davis is the definition of a press man corner as he is aggressive in jamming receivers off the snap. He has incredibly fluid hips, which he can flip nicely, and has some length for the position. He uses his arms to always keep a hand on the receiver and routinely bats down passes with ease. With 29 total tackles and 6 interceptions on the season, Davis allowed less than half of the passes thrown his way to be completed. This guy has a lot of potential.
Jacere Cooper – RB – 5’10” 205 – Morgan County HS / @JacereCooper
Cooper doesn’t go down easy, and he always falls forward. He rips free from tacklers and plays with an outstanding balance that speaks to the kind of core strength he has built. Cooper also shows terrific vision as a runner and has a keen understanding of blocking assignments, and where the hole should develop. He is also disciplined in understanding when he truly has a chance to beat the defense to the edge, and when powering ahead for a short gain is the appropriate action.
Jason Williams – RB – 5’8″ 175 – Harlem HS / @JasonW_20
Jason vision is outstanding, and he is a disciplined runner that very rarely leaves yards on the field by trying to make the big play. He is shifty and plays with a short, choppy steps that allow him to quickly change direction running style. Jason plays with incredible balance and breaks arm tackles.
