Camps, combines, 7-on-7 events in the off-season and hundreds of practices, scrimmages, and games. You put everything into this moment – and as we head into a new year – you are sitting here without a place to go.
The elusive college scholarship that was once hard to achieve has become nearly impossible with the transfer portal and other obstacles that have been placed in the way.
Well, for every negative there is always a positive that pops up and that will happen on Saturday, Feb. 25 at St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens as the annual Orange Bowl Florida High School Football will be held as nearly 40 colleges/universities and well over 200 student-athletes will head to Miami Gardens to extend that dream that began on youth football fields throughout the state of Florida.
From Pensacola right through the Florida Keys, student/athletes will perform in front of colleges and universities who still have those scholarships and financial aid packages that many have been reaching for.
Over $7 million in financial aid has been provided to participants in the showcase since 2017. Over 350 student-athletes were recruited by colleges & universities in the first six years of the event.
With an eye on promoting and serving the state of Florida, the Orange Bowl Florida High School Football Showcase’s vision of providing an opportunity for young student-athletes to use their football and academic skills to attend college and ultimately earn a degree, has indeed changed lives since starting this exposure opportunity.
Presented by Baptist Health, this is a FREE one-day event, in association with the National Football Foundation (NFF) and its local chapters, that will bring together Florida high school seniors and educational institutions in Division II, III, and NAIA programs from across the country. Attending colleges and universities will have the opportunity to view participants compete in a series of tests, competitions, and drills that best display each player’s various talents at their respective positions.
Following the showcase, players and universities will meet to discuss scholarship opportunities for the participating athletes.
The Showcase is organized and managed by quality football coaches hand selected by the Orange Bowl. Admission is restricted to the athletes, participating coaches, visiting high school and college coaches, college administrators and the media.
All student-athletes must pre-register. The participant must be a graduating high school senior and who has not accepted a scholarship offer from a Division I football program. In addition they must meet the following qualifications:
. Have a 2.5 GPA or higher in 16 Core Courses (please visit http://www.ncaa.org/student-athletes/future/core-courses for a description of NCAA Eligible Core Courses). Have an SAT score of 920 (math and verbal only) or higher. Have a composite ACT Score of 18 or higher or a sum score of 68 or higher
All Division II, III, and NAIA athletic directors and head football coaches are invited to attend. There will be ample time for coaches to view the athletes in drills and to talk to them individually about their respective football programs. Staffs from admissions and financial aid departments are encouraged to attend as well.
Students are encouraged to bring extra copies of transcripts and test scores.
Event t-shirts and water will be provided.
An information session will take place during the showcase to educate parents on financial aid, NCAA and NAIA eligibility requirements and much more. We encourage you to attend this session to learn more about putting your student-athlete in the best position to be successful and college-ready.
Further information regarding the parent information session will be sent out close to event day. To register: http://events.r20.constantcontact.com/register/event?llr=ndvcu6kab&oeidk=a07ejhfx8xk34442378
