Continue ReadingQuality special teams reps, favorable frame, and height/weight combination that must intrigue West Catholic’s coaching staff. Raw early and late in pass-rushing reps. He looks to shed with speed and find the ball carrier as quickly as possible. His pursuit after shedding is a plus. I notice his blocking prowess at tight end, he surprised me with how well he handled strength off the edge. Good hand placement too. Johnson has the tools to explode next Fall.
Parker Funk Parker Funk 6’1″ | 230 lbs | DL Greencastle Antrim | 2024 State PA ‘s pursuit of the quarterback/football is going to surprise some. He’s 6’0, a hefty 230 pounds off the edge, yet he closes on the football like he’s 20 pounds lighter. In contrast, Funk finishes reps with authority. Opposing quarterbacks are going to feel him if and when he gets inside the pocket. High-volume tackler for a DE prospect, seven sacks on the year too. Should be a 1st-team Mid-Penn defender this time next year.
6’2, 235 pounds, Ryan Hazlett Ryan Hazlett 6’3″ | 245 lbs | DL Keystone Oaks | 2024 State PA possesses the desirable physique that will help him provide reps all over both sides of the trenches. Explosive off the line, enough to win reps off the edge despite his heavier set build. That same beef helps him win when kicked inside to IDL. Hazlett displays a great blend of strength and interior quickness to help him serve as one of the better junior defensive linemen in his conference. His reps along the offensive line are equally impressive. I project him to the defensive side of the football strictly because of the attitude and tone he sets on that side of the field. The kid could have a future at OL as well. Could have a top-300 ceiling.
Highlights
I have a strong feeling that Joseph Bass Joseph Bass 6’2″ | 235 lbs | DL Central Dauphin | 2024 State PA is going to outplay this rank sooner rather than later. Bass’ tape proves he’s one of the more productive IDL on the back half of our rankings. We can project all day, yet numbers don’t lie. Bass is a defensive lineman that can legitimately win shading or head-up on guards or tackles. A multi-tech lineman that wins with great upper-body strength. His tape shows he can be disciplined when unblocked or targeted as the man left unblocked against RPO sets. Great feel for the flow of the play. Recognition of pulling linemen is a plus, good vision into the backfield.
The lower we go, the bigger and stronger we get. Tough to decide where I like Basil Walter Basil Walter 6’3″ | 235 lbs | DL Abington | 2024 State PA , a great problem to have for an interior linemen prospect. His tape shows off quality reps on both sides of the ball. Strength and drive in his lower body are pluses. 6’3, 235-pound frame allows him to be a viable option at guard, where you know he isn’t moving with cinderblocks on his feet. He’s a viable option kicked inside at defensive tackle as well, where he can overwhelm smaller centers/guards.
I have a good feeling that Symauri McCoy Symauri McCoy 6’4″ | 260 lbs | DL Beaver Falls | 2024 State PA will land inside the top 200 in our next update. His tape is that good, he’s got the accolades to back up this claim as well. McCoy earned Co-Lineman of the Year in his conference, a huge accolade to boast about. 7-minute tape shows how difficult it can be for opposing guards to not only match his strength but even lock arms against McCoy. The reps where McCoy is driven off the ball and steered are few and far between. This massive trench player will undoubtedly see interest on both sides of the ball. Good thing for McCoy, he’s already ahead of the curve. McCoy’s offensive line reps are equally as dominant as his IDL reps. Fun tape to watch. Potential is through the roof.
