James Scott Jr.
James Scott Jr.
Scott has earned himself the moniker of “Metro League’s best kept secret” due to his ravenous production and humble demeanor. Franklin’s bell cow averaged a monstrous 10.1 yards per carry and 136.7 yards per game, racking up 15 total touchdowns en route to winning 3A Metro-Sound Division Co-Offensive MVP Honors. His 210 lb. frame combined with his quick, churning feet make him especially difficult for defenders to get ahold of and bring down, and his vision allows him to consistently threaten to break away. Scott was a true program-changer for the Quaker, leading them to their first win in 7 seasons last year and a 7-2 record this year, their first winning record in a decade.
Daizhantae King
Daizhantae King
King began the year as a versatile WR for Rainier Beach, but had to step in at QB in the last game. He showcased his high football-IQ and great instincts in both roles. He lined up both inside and outside as a WR, and his natural feel for space makes him dangerous on screens as a slot presence. As a wideout, he times his middle routes well and finds massive gaps in zone coverage. He doesn’t threaten deep too often, but can slip away quickly and feasts on young corners’ mistakes. King utilizes his low center of gravity when running and blocking, and blocks through the whistle.
Zelrico Butler
Zelrico Butler
In the run game, Butler can push defenders as well as anyone. Once he gets hands on, he’s pushing them til they’re out of the play or it’s over. He doesn’t pull much, but has the awareness to time it well and take a good angle when asked. When possible, he gets to the second and third level and handles smaller defenders with ease. In pass-blocking, he keeps his center-of-gravity back and is an immovable force, using his feet to stay in front of defenders. He gets off quickly and keeps his eyes up, positioning himself well to block his man or gap while creating the pocket. When his fundamentals suffer, he knows how to utilize his size without abandoning his form.
Washington has excellent balance that allows him to turn without losing speed. He runs north-south and is efficient with his time in space, but is nimble and shifty enough to bounce a run outside. He’s patient in the backfield and explodes through the line as the play develops. His size and vision work well in tandem, as he slips between flat-footed defenders and is off to the races quickly if they dare go for his ankles. This season, he amassed 110.4 yards per game and 9.7 yards per carry, leading Lakes to a 6-3 record.
Highlights
Emmit Otero
Emmit Otero
Otero has the motor and steam of a freight train, despite standing at just 5-foot-7. A natural ballcarrier, he invites contact and punishes defenders who try and wrap him up without popping pads by lowering his even further. He doesn’t juke much but pulls the occasional stiff-arm or spin move, which can lead to a sequence with several broken tackles. He’s explosive in the open field, but knows when to run north-south as well. He rushed for 131.1 yards per game (7.7 per carry) and 24 touchdowns while helping Enumclaw to a 12-1 record.
