The Class of 2023 in Northwest Ohio left a memorable mark on the football field. We are talking about two-time team all-state players, defensive players of the year, and state champions. Many of these athletes are experiencing the side effects of the transfer portal that completely changed how college football recruits its high school players. Some college coaches are forced into a win-now situation and must rely on getting experienced players to help them vs. the traditional route of developing talent over time. I’m primarily speaking to the division 1 situation, but the trickle-down has made an impact on D2 as well. Even in the darkness, you can find light, and these prospects will make some staff extremely happy if they land one of these hidden gems.
Kaden will leave Fremont Ross better than when he got there. He is an exceptional athlete that will leave shoes that only the feet of a giant can try to fill. He is an elite football player and has a few offers from two of the three service academies, but things will be interesting leading into the traditional signing day. Holmes can play for any team in the Mid-American Conference, and I think that’s where he could land. This two-time All-State QB can also play defense and has a unique skillset at WR.
If you know the story of Mr. Clark, you would want to root for him too. In the last game of his sophomore season on JV, he suffered a knee injury that would sideline him for many months. Jr season was a storybook until the season ended on a 2 point play in the playoffs. Coach Dempsey gave Clark the keys to the Central Catholic’s metaphoric Lamborghini of an offense, and he never looked back. Fast forward to today, Clark is a state-champion QB that showed resolve and leadership in challenging situations. Both athletic and savvy with extensive play capability inside and outside the pocket. The lefty QB reminds me of the University of Toledo’s Dequan Finn, starting QB for the Rockets football team and 2022 MAC Champion. Ty is a certified hidden gem, believe it!rn
Alex Kasee
Alex Kasee
Alex is one of the most decorated football players to leave Sylvania Northview high school’s program. He is a 3x All-Ohioan, and two of those times were on the first team. Kasee took on all the kicker duties at some point in his career and stood out among his peers. Scholarships for specialists are always hard to come by, but the name of the game is to get an opportunity. Consistency is the game’s name, and Kasee has proved that he has what it takes to perform at the next level.
