After finishing the series on the top unsigned 6A offensive players, I figured I should probably do defense too. So after the Vikings sent me into cardiac arrest, I looked at the secondary first, and scoured all the 6A rosters for the top unsigned senior DBs!

[player_tooltip player_id='287256' first='Najee' last='Nelson']: Lakeville North 5'11" 165 lbs

Nelson is arguably the best defensive back in Minnesota, the lockdown corner has a 2-star rating from 247sports and boasts a few FCS offers. He is an incredibly disciplined defender, never biting on routes underneath him. He does a great job of anticipating where the QB is throwing and has fantastic ball-tracking skills. Nelson is a physical cornerback who has no problem playing the run and will run over wideouts trying to block him. Nelson is a great physical corner who consistently makes big plays on the ball. He currently holds two offers, Montana State and NDSU (D1).

[player_tooltip player_id='312974' first='Henry' last='Pirner']: Centennial 6'1" 180 lbs

Pirner is a tall, lanky, athletic DB from Centennial. He's a versatile player who has the ability to play a variety of positions on the field, both on offense and defense. He is quick and uses his speed to easily make TFLs and fly across the field in pursuit of a runner. He's shown often making the play-saving tackle when a runner breaks free. He currently holds one offer from St. Olaf (D3).

Abid Alam: Rosemount 5'10" 170 lbs

Alam is a key starter on arguably the best defense in the state. Alam is a missile, who reads QBs perfectly and flies around the field making great TFLs. He makes smooth plays on ball carriers, always wrapping up at the legs and never letting go. He is incredibly elusive when he shoots through the line and is an excellent run defender. He fights through blocks well and plays very disciplined in zone coverage. He currently holds no offers.

[player_tooltip player_id='313065' first='Rhys' last='Vagle']: Hopkins 5'10" 170 lbs

Vagle is perhaps the most underrated dual-threat athlete in Minnesota. The Hopkins WR/DB has burst onto the scene as of late, earning gameday visits from some D1 schools like New Mexico. He is an explosive athlete with great speed, agility, and acceleration. He is a TANK too. He stops ball carriers right in their tracks and does an excellent job of finishing through tackles. Vagle is a strong run-stopping safety who needs more serious looks from colleges. He currently holds one offer from St. Johns (D3).

[player_tooltip player_id='167373' first='Keon' last='Hunter']: Burnsville 5'9" 155 lbs

Hunter is a dangerously underrated Burnsville DB who will take the JUCO route. His vision is on another level. He breaks quickly from zone drops to break up passes underneath, his eyes constantly on the ball, and his hands always in the right place to prevent a catch. He plays with a physicality and intensity that many players don't share. When he crashes down on runners he comes flying like a cannonball. He has a great feel for the game in open space and I'm hyped to follow his JUCO career and see where he ends up. He currently holds multiple offers across all levels, but 3 in JUCO, which is his preferred level to play.

Braden Champlin: Farmington 6' 170 lbs

Champlin is a versatile Farmington defender who has shown the ability to play both the outside linebacker and safety positions. Champlin is a top-tier run defender, he comes screaming downhill to fill gaps or tackle ball carriers quickly and efficiently. He has also seen some work off the edge, where he uses his speed and elusivity to rack up sacks and TFLs. In the passing game, he uses his long wingspan and good vertical to defend passes that many other DBs couldn't stop. Champlin has high awareness and should be looked at further by many coaches at the next level. He currently holds no offers.

Sawyer Chell: Anoka 6'2" 170 lbs

Chell is the blueprint for DBs. Tall, quick, lanky, strong, with great hand-eye coordination to boot. In his senior campaign, he tallied over 30 tackles, 1 fumble recovery, and 2 interceptions. Chell is very disciplined in his coverage and has shown his ability to clamp up defenders in press man. He has the quickness to match strides with fast WRs and the ball-tracking skills to defend passes that many other DBs couldn't touch. He has great awareness and seems to always know where the ball is going on the field. Chell currently holds no offers.

[player_tooltip player_id='348804' first='Cody' last='Sieben']: Lakeville North 5'9" 150 lbs

Long snapper, holder, safety, this kid can do it all. Sieben has a high motor and the ability to play nearly every position in the back 7. He has the intelligence and physicality to play linebacker with the speed and agility to play DB. He loves meeting ball carriers head-on and stopping them in their tracks. He makes solid plays on the ball in pass coverage as well. Sieben currently holds no offers.

Nico Cerise: Edina 6'1" 170 lbs

On a team noted for their phenomenal secondary, Cerise made sure to make his mark and is going dangerously underrecruited. This kid makes great plays on the ball. He allows next to no separation from WRs, constantly on their hip. He uses his physicality and big frame to bully the wideouts within 5 yards and then uses his exceptional vertical to swat down passes in his vicinity. He shows great tenacity when he fights through tough blocks to get to ball carriers as well. Cerise is a major stock riser in my book after this season. He currently holds 0 offers.

[player_tooltip player_id='295814' first='Brady' last='Anderson']: Edina 6'2" 200 lbs

What can I say about Anderson that hasn't already been said? He was on my top offensive player's list, and he deserves to be on this just as much. Loose hips, was quick out of his breaks, high football IQ, great tackler, I could go on forever. He currently holds 6 D1 offers and is stacking up more every day. He has the versatility to play both corner and safety and will end up being one of the biggest names out of MN this year. He has offers from St. Thomas, Georgia State, Eastern Kentucky, Arkansas State, Fordham, and even Army.

Khalil Toney: Champlin Park 6' 150 lbs

Toney recorded over 40 total tackles during his campaign with two interceptions to go along with them. Toney is a fast-flying, hard-hitting, hard-nosed DB. He is a strong run-game defender, Toney has no problem fighting through blockers and hit-sticking ball carriers that come near him. In man coverage, Toney is like a blanket. He's quick enough to match stride with even the fastest WRs and allows next to no separation downfield. Toney is a vastly underrated prospect and should blow up on the recruiting trail soon. He currently holds 0 offers.

Eddie Hallowanger: Park of Cottage Grove 6'1" 180 lbs

Hallowanger is another Park basketball player who had a successful senior season. This kid is an absolute ATHLETE. He's got track speed and basketball agility while in the pads. He is a great gang-tackler, either wrapping up and never letting go, or finishing off ball carriers when they keep fighting for more yards. He's shown to be best in press-man coverage, where is an aggressive hand fighter, and uses his long wingspan to break up passes. Hallowanger currently holds 0 offers.

[player_tooltip player_id='301399' first='Chris' last='Kujawa']: Park of Cottage Grove 5'8" 155 lbs

Don't let his height fool you, Kujawa has that dog in him. He loves going up for 50/50 balls with bigger defenders and seems to take great pride in ripping away passes from WRs. He tackles low and rolls through well and has proven himself a more than capable safety. He's disciplined, doesn't bite on fakes, and should make a great player at the next level. He currently holds one offer from Lawrence University (D3).

[player_tooltip player_id='313246' first='Logan' last='Jans']: STMA 6'4" 175 lbs

A 6'4" safety? I was incredibly excited to break down Jans film and he did not disappoint. Not only does he have a ton of intangibles that will work great at the next level, but he is also an incredibly cerebral player who is able to read QBs incredibly well. His giant frame and long wingspan pose a massive problem for QBs who are trying to fit balls into his tight coverage. And when this kid hits people, they feel it. Jans is an electric player who should make waves at the next level. He currently holds no offers.

[player_tooltip player_id='313248' first='Josh' last='Segler']: STMA 5'10" 175 lbs

Segler is a quick corner who provided tight coverage all season for the Knights. Against top MN WRs, Segler does not allow a step of separation. He knows exactly when to close the gap and constantly makes good plays on the ball. He totaled just under 50 tackles in his senior season. Segler was dominant in man coverage all year and should be a force to be reckoned with at the next level. He currently holds 0 offers.

[player_tooltip player_id='313153' first='Cosmo' last='Guion']: Minnetonka 6'1" 175 lbs

Cosmo was one of two Minnetonka defensive players who popped off this season in my opinion. The lanky track star posted over 45 total tackles, with one interception and two forced fumbles. Both on the field and off the field Guion is a star. He held strong with a 4.05 GPA this year and is an accomplished track athlete. You can see his speed on tape, as he's able to match strides with even the quickest WRs. He shoots across the field like a lightning bolt and is exceptional at playing the deep ball. That's where he makes the most of his great ball-tracking ability and breaks up passes that would otherwise be TDs. He currently holds no offers.

[player_tooltip player_id='299957' first='Andrew' last='Westermeyer']: Wayzata 6'2" 200 lbs

Westermeyer totaled over 40 tackles and only allowed two completions during his senior campaign. The big-body safety has proven himself more than a capable run defender and has produced highlight-level hits all season long. He stonewalls ballcarriers who attempt to run through him and has the speed to catch up with them while in pursuit. He's got a quick first step and needs more recruiting hype. He currently holds one offer from St. Johns (D3).

[player_tooltip player_id='313339' first='Alex' last='Hart']: Wayzata 5'10" 165 lbs

Hart is an incredible athlete with great in-game instincts which has led his recruiting stock to skyrocket this season. Hart is a dog plain and simple. He has almost a 6th sense of where the football is headed and does an excellent job of high-pointing passes that he picks off. With his breakaway speed, he's able to extend his turnovers, and match pace with even the quickest offensive players. Hart does an excellent job in man coverage and makes incredible-looking plays on the ball make incredibly easy. He currently holds two offers, from St. Thomas (D1), and Bemidji State (D2).

[player_tooltip player_id='295965' first='Termaine' last='Fulton'] Jr: Shakopee 6'3" 185 lbs

DBs are not built like Fulton. This kid is an absolute unit. In his senior season, he racked up over 65 total tackles and an interception. His long build makes throwing over and around him near impossible, as this kid bats down everything that is thrown near him. Fulton absolutely jacks kids up. He is a human hit-stick reel. A big-body, aggressive, intelligent DB, who has great hip movement and is very fluid in his motions. Fulton currently holds no offers but has interest from a variety of schools.

[player_tooltip player_id='313268' first='Andrew' last='McCall']: Shakopee 5'11" 170 lbs

McCall took home two interceptions his senior season, one of which ended up as a TD. McCall is super physical within 5 yards and he boasts some crazy ball-tracking abilities. He excels in man coverage, and always stays tight on the hip of his man. He does a great job of high-pointing balls and tackles incredibly well in open space. McCall currently holds no offers.

[player_tooltip player_id='348633' first='Westin' last='Hoyt']: Forest Lake 6'1" 190 lbs

Hoyt was absolutely essential to Forest Lake's turnaround season. He amassed over 40 tackles with 2 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries. Hoyt is a fantastic athlete. He's quick, agile, strong, and does exceptionally well in open spaces. He finishes through tackles and is not afraid to lay the wood on ball carriers. He fills gaps well and has incredibly high in-game awareness. He currently holds offers from Mankato, Bemidji State, Winona State, Minnesota Duluth, Moorhead, and UMary (D2.)

[player_tooltip player_id='348757' first='Luke' last='Meyer']: Lakeville South 5'10" 160 lbs

Not only does Meyer boast a 3.99 GPA, but he has been a fantastic player for Lakeville South all season long. Meyer boasts some of the best hand placement of any DB in Minnesota. He has a great vertical and comes down with way more 50/50 balls than you would expect of someone with his size. He breaks out of his drop incredibly quickly and always seems to get a hand on the ball. Meyer is an incredibly underrated prospect who currently holds 0 offers.

[player_tooltip player_id='310762' first='Jacob' last='Anderson']: Maple Grove 6' 175 lbs

Fresh off a state championship victory, [player_tooltip player_id='310762' first='Jacob' last='Anderson'] cemented himself as one of MNs top recruits. Anderson was instrumental in the team win, with an interception and a crucial forced fumble. This kid has a deep bag. He has quick feet and great open-field awareness. He does an excellent job of high-pointing interceptions and has great tackling technique. Anderson currently holds a pair of offers from SMSU and Bemidji State, (D2).

After finishing the series on the top unsigned 6A offensive players, I figured I should probably do defense too. So after the Vikings sent me into cardiac arrest, I looked at the secondary first, and scoured all the 6A rosters for the top unsigned senior DBs!
