Signing Day Overview

- One of the best position groups of all from the in-state #TN2023 class is our quarterbacks and on Signing Day, the state of Tennessee saw twelve signal callers sign college papers. It's hard to go in the past to see if any other graduating classes had a quarterback group as strong as this one but this had to be a banner year for our passers and one of the best in-state classes of all-time.

Sitting at the top of the quarterback signee class are four Power Five passers with great upside to become starters and standout performers on the next level. Those four include [player_tooltip player_id='102233' first='Brock' last='Glenn'] (Signed w/ Florida St.), [player_tooltip player_id='150305' first='Kenny' last='Minchey'] (Signed w/ Notre Dame), [player_tooltip player_id='102308' first='Marcel' last='Reed'] (Signed w/ Texas A&M) and [player_tooltip player_id='60841' first='Chris' last='Parson'], who signed with Mississippi St.

All four of those quarterbacks were four of the most heavily recruited prospects from the #TN2023 class as each show the upside to become big time leaders and players on the collegiate gridiron.

Those weren't the only quarterbacks who signed on Wednesday. Among the others who are officially inked for the college game includes [player_tooltip player_id='102304' first='Braylen' last='Ragland'] (Bartlett/Signed w/ Georgia St.), J.D. Sherrod (Briarcrest/Signed w/ Troy), [player_tooltip player_id='285338' first='Hank' last='Brown'] (Lipscomb Acad./Signed w/ Auburn), [player_tooltip player_id='295457' first='Coby' last='Walton'] (Nolensville/Signed w/ Ga Southern), [player_tooltip player_id='102302' first='Jordyn' last='Potts'] (Powell/Signed w/ TN Tech), [player_tooltip player_id='102268' first='Colbey' last='Lamberth'] (Dickson Co./Signed w/ Eastern Ky), [player_tooltip player_id='123166' first='Jaylen' last='Abston'] (Lebanon/Signed w/ Murray St.) and Overton's [player_tooltip player_id='234958' first='Ryder' last='Hagan'], who signed with Tennessee St.

—-------------

- Another position group that might turn out to be the best of all-time in this state, is our #TN2023 Offensive Line class, where we saw twenty prospects sign on the dotted line with several of them headed for the Power Five ranks. Throughout the entire 2023 recruiting cycle, the guys on the O-line in this state have been talked about a lot as you have multiple high caliber prospects with the size, strength and upside to become standout players in college.

The twenty that signed on Wednesday won't be the only O-linemen from the #TN2023 class to take their talents to college as in February several others will join them after the second National Signing Day and make this possibly the best class ever from the O-line.

Looking through the twenty signees, 14 offensive linemen signed with Division One schools, which has to be record for this position or very close to it. Nine of those fourteen are going to Power Five programs, headlined by the #TN2023 3rd overall prospect in Baylor offensive tackle [player_tooltip player_id='102315' first='Brycen' last='Sanders'], who is headed to Ole Miss.

The Atlantic Coast Conference is getting three talented trench monsters that could develop into All-ACC O-linemen one day, lead by [player_tooltip player_id='102358' first='Lance' last='Williams'], who signed with Virginia Tech with future Wake Forest Demon Deacon in [player_tooltip player_id='228144' first='George' last='Steih'] (Franklin-Grace HS) and [player_tooltip player_id='215063' first='Caleb' last='Dorris'] (Ensworth), headed to play with the Duke Blue Devils.

[player_tooltip player_id='102185' first='Luke' last='Brown'] (Henry Co.), [player_tooltip player_id='276788' first='Brandon' last='Solis'] (Lipscomb Acad.), [player_tooltip player_id='102188' first='Ayden' last='Bussell'] (Mt. Juliet) and [player_tooltip player_id='102277' first='Barrett' last='Maddox'] (Clinton) are all headed to the SEC and all four coaching staffs are excited about getting these big men on campus as they all show high upside. Brown is headed to Arkansas while Solis signed with Missouri. Bussell is headed East to play with Tennessee while Maddox is leaving the Vols' backyard to play with Vanderbilt.

The rest of the overall twenty that signed are headed to either Group of Five schools or the FCS level. Two underrated interior O-linemen going to the G5 ranks are [player_tooltip player_id='118718' first='Cal' last='Grubbs'] (Signed w/ Liberty) from Maryville and Briarcrest Christian senior [player_tooltip player_id='102179' first='Nate' last='Bledsoe'], who is headed to Texas to play with Rice. Both these guys are legit, sporting Power Five abilities but became steals for the Flames and Owls.

Other O-linemen who signed on Wednesday include, [player_tooltip player_id='102257' first='Tyler' last='Jeffries'] (Alcoa/Signed w/ Indiana), [player_tooltip player_id='102175' first='Tyler' last='Bell'] (Lausanne/Signed w/ Troy), [player_tooltip player_id='102231' first='Eli' last='Freeman'] (Lebanon/Signed w/ Ball St.), [player_tooltip player_id='102290' first='Luke' last='Needham'] (Houston/Signed w/ Rice), [player_tooltip player_id='317187' first='Ty' last='Williams'] (Greeneville/Signed w/ Austin Peay), [player_tooltip player_id='225975' first='Aidan' last='Donald'] (Lebanon/Signed w/ Chattanooga), [player_tooltip player_id='157394' first='Leo' last='Gonzalez'] (Lenoir City/Signed w/ Austin Peay), [player_tooltip player_id='150333' first='Ethan' last='Hatton'] (Lausanne/Signed w/ SE Missouri St.), [player_tooltip player_id='102331' first='Misan' last='Sisk'] (MASE/Signed w/ Murray St.) and Independence senior [player_tooltip player_id='102364' first='Jacob' last='Woodward'], who inked with Lindsey Wilson.

—-----------------

- Checking out the defensive prospects who signed on the 1st National Signing Day, the best position group for the #TN2023 class was the Defensive Line, who put 11 total players into college on Wednesday with five of them going to the Power Five level. Those five are [player_tooltip player_id='102223' first='Trevor' last='Duncan'] (Knox. Catholic) and [player_tooltip player_id='150344' first='Nathan' last='Robinson'], who both signed with Tennessee, Nolensville senior [player_tooltip player_id='150365' first='Taylor' last='Wein'] (Signed w/ Oklahoma), [player_tooltip player_id='102191' first='Drake' last='Carlson'] (Father Ryan), who is headed to Purdue and Baylor D-lineman and future Duke Blue Devil, [player_tooltip player_id='205281' first='Anthony' last='Boggs'].

Our new senior rankings are coming to the site soon and a battle for the #1 D-lineman is currently taking place between Duncan, Wein and Carlson. All three guys bring something different to the table but all have tremendous upside to become key contributors with their future respected college programs.

Behind those top five is a group of talented and underrated guys who have the potential to develop very well in college. [player_tooltip player_id='102281' first='Jayden' last='Marable'] (Smyrna/Signed w/ Memphis), [player_tooltip player_id='102292' first='Donovan' last='Nevils'] (BGA/Signed w/ Memphis) and [player_tooltip player_id='102234' first='Caleb' last='Graham'] (Maryville/Signed w/ Army) are going Group of Five while [player_tooltip player_id='225961' first='Jaden' last='McKinney'] (Collierville/Signed w/ Austin Peay), [player_tooltip player_id='102361' first='Braxton' last='Wilson'] (Fayetteville/Signed w/ ETSU) and [player_tooltip player_id='102262' first='Jamarr' last='Jones'] (Pope Prep/Signed w/ Chattanooga) are going to the FCS level.

This is a deep defensive line class that will see several others sign in February, eventually turning this into one of the better D-line groups to come out of Tennessee. The eleven that signed on Wednesday are considered the top of the class with a few guys sporting the potential to turn into world class players that play on Sunday's.

Signing Day Steals

- (QB) J.D. Sherrod - Briarcrest Chrst (Signed w/ Troy): The Trojans might have gotten their future QB here with Sherrod as the Saints signal caller has nice size, a cannon right arm and the athleticism to handle college pressure.

- (WR) Junior Sherrill - Lipscomb Acad. (Signed w/ Vanderbilt): A state champion and Mr. Football winner that only had one Power Five offer, Sherrill is an absolute steal for the Commodores as they got themselves a big time player with electric speed.

- (TE) [player_tooltip player_id='201093' first='Dalton' last='Restelli'] - Baylor (Signed w/ Chattanooga): Restelli came on late in the process, so the Mocs was able to gain a D1 talent that has the ability and upside to some day possibly play on Sunday's.

- (C/G) [player_tooltip player_id='118718' first='Cal' last='Grubbs'] - Maryville (Signed w/ Liberty): This is one of the best, most consistent O-linemen in our #TN2023 class, who the Flames landed after many Power Five and D1 schools, looked over Grubbs in favor of others.

- (OT/G) [player_tooltip player_id='102231' first='Eli' last='Freeman'] - Lebanon (Signed w/ Ball St.): Freeman was always an underrated prospect throughout this entire process that Ball St. viewed as a must get and I think they grabbed a steal and a possible four year starter.

- (DL/OL) [player_tooltip player_id='225961' first='Jaden' last='McKinney'] - Collierville (Signed w/ Austin Peay): Somehow and someway, McKinney slipped down to the Governors as I and others thought this Dragons lineman was a sure fire D1 guy that will now be tearing it up in Clarksville.

- (LB) [player_tooltip player_id='150368' first='Tristan' last='Bohannon'] - Munford (Signed w/ Washington St.): While many from the South missed on this Cougars linebacker, Washington St. did not as Bohannon has a great opportunity to not only become a key contributor in Pullman but a possible star as well.

- (S) [player_tooltip player_id='222271' first='Luke' last='Cook'] - Gallatin (Signed w/ Lindenwood): If this Green Wave senior can develop his game further while continuing to add more size, Cook has a chance to turn into an All-Conference performer during his time with the Lions.
