The class of 2025 is deep in talent, and many players in this class have offers to back that up. As we begin to watch how the chips may fall for the class of 2023 vs. the transfer portal, I wanted to take a quick look at some young guns that you should know.
Feel free to reach me via Twitter if you have prospects I should know. @Coach_MikeRob
Zechariah Washington
Zechariah Washington
Zechariah’s ball skills are lucid, and he does an exceptional job tracking the ball when it’s at the zenith. He knows when to break on underneath routes in the zone, which means good football acumen. Patient eyes and quick feet stand out immediately from the film. Most of the film is zone coverage, but a few glimpses of man-to-man. Most college coaches revere the capability to tackle in space when recruiting a secondary defender, and this blooming prospect is confident when putting his nose on the ball carrier. You should expect nothing less than a breakout season for Zechariah in 2023, and I would not be surprised if college coaches start showing interest this off-season.
Stevie Diamond
Stevie Diamond
Akron Buchtel High School has a 2025 prospect that shows flashes of a top recruit, and he already holds one offer from Marshall. Stevie Diamond has a dynamic arm and a bright future at the quarterback position. Whether he’s throwing the ball on the run or setting up in the pocket, he’s highly accurate. Stevie will evolve his mechanics this off-season, which will help speed up his release and keep defensive coordinators up all night; Stevie is unique. When he sits in the pocket, he’s comfortable and hasn’t shown much of his running ability, and that’s due to the offensive coordinator’s confidence in this exceptional talent. This offense was efficient, with Diamond bolstering a 92 QBR to end the 2022 season. Stevie finished his sophomore season with 1920 yards, along with 21 touchdowns.
Micah is a definition example of what a ball Hawk looks like on the gridiron. He helped usher his team to the state championship; they fell short of Toledo Central Catholic. Rice is a highly physical athlete with excellent speed and a work ethic that is unmatched. Micah is a rangy Defender, and when the ball is in the area, he’s either getting an interception or a pass breakup. His stock is rising quickly; Micah can play both sides of the ball, which is critical for coaches who like versatile players. A few times on the tape, you see him chase down plays from the back side, giving you a preview of his acceleration and closing speed. He comes downhill fast and physically when the coaches put them at high safety. This year will be a new challenge as he heads to Cincinnati Moeller to finish his high school career, but I expect everything to stay on track as this young man is in the weight room working on this craft daily. Big time prospect to watch in the state of Ohio in 2023.
Chase Johnson
Chase Johnson
When watching the film on Chase Johnson, you understand why coaches have him on the field as a sophomore. He performs on both sides of the ball, from tackle to the defensive line. He does an excellent job of shedding blockers from the defensive perspective and uses his hands to get in the backfield. His speed is on display when he strings out plays to the sidelines almost nine times out of ten, and Chase will catch you if he’s chasing down from the backside. Toughness and aggressiveness can also be seen in the film, as he loves to make contact and never shies away. He will have to get stronger this offseason as he looks to make more waves in the 2023 season, so keep your eyes open for Chase Johnson from Columbus, Ohio, in 2023
