– The offseason has officially kicked off as Sunday in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Prep Redzone hosted their “Winter Showcase” at Oakland High School where plenty of talent came to compete and push their recruiting stocks even higher.
Several kids from all across the state came to the Mid-Tennessee area to show off their abilities and some prospects did more than stand out, they put themselves above the rest to become combine MVP’s.
Multiple positions had several options to choose from for the MVP award but only one could leave with the top positional honors and these guys below are the ones who performed the best.
QB MVP: Aidan Glover Aidan Glover 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Collierville | 2024 State TN – Collierville (‘24)
– Not only was Glover named the QB MVP for the Winter Showcase but he was also one of the best overall performers from the entire combine. This guy was highly impressive as Glover brings a lot of Power Five, D1 traits to the football field, including size, arm talent, athleticism and the ability to be coached. The Dragons junior signal caller has a powerful right arm and he displayed that big time on Sunday afternoon where he connected on several deep passes while pinpointing the ball with accuracy on out routes towards the boundary. He also showed great mobility within the pocket while keeping his eyes down field. There is not a single throw that Glover can not make and his performance in Murfreesboro continued my thoughts even further that he may be the best in-state quarterback talent in the 2024 class.
RB MVP: Cam Davis Cam Davis 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB Westview | 2024 State TN – Westview (‘24)
– Winning top honors for the position group was tough as you had several strong contenders but Davis was the best due to his combination size, strength and ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. Standing 6’0 180 pounds, the Chargers junior running back took a bit of time to get going but once he did, his talents were definitely on display. Davis showed nice feet when working the bags and taking directions from the coaches but it’s when we got to 1 on 1’s is when this West Tennessee product stood out the most. Davis was able to use his size and speed to get open against linebackers and haul in passes with ease, using his soft hands. Look for Davis to become a focal point of the Chargers offense for the 2023 season.
WR MVP: Gethsemane Turner Gethsemane Turner 5'9" Loudon | 2023 TN – Loudon (‘23)
– A little known senior prospect came to the Boro and took home MVP honors based on his technique sound play and ability to blaze past defenders. Turner is way under the radar at the moment and someone that is definitely available for any college staff to come after and based on his play at the Winter Showcase, he is certainly worthy. The biggest trait that stood out about Turner was his ability to get off the line quickly and run his routes with precision. The Redskins senior playmaker can run and he knows how to use his speed to get around defenders and find himself in the open field quickly. The main factor that has probably kept Turner quiet on the recruiting front is his size but on Sunday afternoon, he certainly played much bigger and held his own against some talented defensive backs.
OL MVP: Mykel Slusher Mykel Slusher 6'2" | 275 lbs | OL William Blount | 2024 TN – William Blount (‘24)
– Many in attendance didn’t know too much about Slusher when he arrived at the Showcase but by the end, coaches and scouts certainly did as this East Tennessee product was named MVP for the offensive line. Sitting around 6’2 270 pounds plus, Slusher has a nice frame and body that can continue to develop over the next two years while also sporting nice feet and the ability to bend and explode out of his stance. He handled himself with maturity and focused attention throughout the camp as he was consistently the best O-lineman in testing as well as in the 1 on 1 portion of the combine. Slusher fits best playing inside on the line and could even develop into an excellent center prospect with more work and development. It will be interesting to see his progression over the coming offseason as Slusher can play and he can work himself into an eventual college player.
DL MVP: Kedrick Donald Kedrick Donald 6'0" | 245 lbs | DL Houston | 2025 TN – Houston (‘25)
– Throughout the 2022 season, Donald was an active pass rusher that O-linemen had a hard time dealing with and that continued in Sunday’s Winter Showcase. The Mustangs sophomore D-lineman was the most active and fastest pass rusher on the day, showing off those abilities working both on the inside and the edge. His quickness off the snap was very difficult for the O-linemen to handle as Donald would get past them before they could fully get out of their stance. He sports strong, active hands and uses them well. Donald is also very coachable with a passion for playing the game, so expect to hear more about this Memphis D-lineman over the coming year.
LB MVP: Bryson Myers – Greeneville (‘24)
– Coming off a successful 2022 season, Myers came to Murfreesboro looking to boost his stock and he did just that by taking MVP honors for the linebackers and placing his name on the prospect list as someone to watch going forward. Crafty, physical and smart, Myers is a well built young man that took to coaching very well at the Winter Showcase and displayed a variety of skills during drill work and 1 on 1 competition. The biggest thing that stood out the most about Myers was his play recognition and football knowledge. He consistently did the right things in each and every drill he was a part of then looked impressive when dropping to cover backs and tight ends. More work is to be done for Myers but this is an East Tennessee that definitely boosted his stock after a strong camp performance.
DB MVP: Kollin Collier Kollin Collier 6'1" | 180 lbs | DB Munford | 2024 State TN – Briarcrest Christian (‘24)
– One of the top performers from the entire combine from either side of the ball was Collier and with this being the first time seeing this West Tennessee product in person, I have to say that he is legit and a definite D1 prospect. The Saints junior defender had coaches and scouts buzzing about his play on Sunday as he was one of the best during testing and when we got to 1 on 1 competition, Collier locked things down, covering receivers like glue. His ability to run and make adjustments during mid route is what impressed me the most as it showed the ability to possibly stay outside in college at cover corner. Collier is also a competitive guy that kept his motor on high throughout the entire combine. This is an impressive talent with size, length and versatility and I expect to see Collier’s recruiting stock explode over the next few months.
