With an incomplete pass in the endzone, St. Teresa was able to come away with a 29 to 22 win adding a new trophy to the trophy collection. With that being said, there are talented young men on both sides of the ball and we’re here to highlight them. Without further ado, let’s dive into the St. Teresa Standouts.

Billy Guyse
Billy Guyse
Mr. Guyse had himself a game stuffing the stat line on both sides of the ball finishing with 1 reception TD for 9 yards, 10 tackles, 1 INT, and 1 PBU. His TD catch ended up being on a corner route where he used a toe tape to secure it right before going out of bounds which was impressive with the body control he flashes. On defense, this young man was making open field tackles on the perimeter all night long and can close quickly when coming down in run support to secure the tackle near the line of scrimmage for little gain on the play. He also is able to go up for 50/50 balls in the redzone coming away with the PBU by transitioning quickly before closing on the receiver to contest the pass to force an incomplete pass.
Mr. Hendrix has been on my radar for some time now and I had picked as my way too early 2A MVP earlier this season. In today’s matchup, he finished with 3 receptions for 143 yards with 1 TD (87 yards), 6 tackles, and 1 PBU. On offense, he works as a slot receiver where he can secure the catch across the middle and use his foot quicks to break a 87 yard TD run in the 1st getting his team on the board. He also can go up for 50/50 balls on deep shots downfield to add to his offensive performance. Switching over to defense, this is where this young man isn’t afraid to deliver the heavy hit on the ball carrier and make open field tackles on the perimeter. He can also jump routes in the flat for come away with his PBU on the day almost coming away with an interception and if he did there was nothing but green grass in front of him. All in all, this is a technically sound defensive back that can make plays both in run support and in pass coverage.
Highlights
Mr. Harper is a downhill back that can fight for extra yards by playing through contact. He finished the day with 9 carries for 64 yards and 1 TD en route to winning the 2A IHSA State Championship. There were countless times where it seemed like he was going to be brought down for a loss on the play but he was able to break the weak grab tackles and continue working through the whistle to stay ahead of the sticks. With all the weapons St. Teresa has they spread the ball around a lot during this contest, don’t let that shy you away from this workhorse that has as big frame standing at 6’2.
Highlights
Mr. Wallace finished the game with 6 tackles and 1.0 TFLs on the day. He did so by shooting gaps to meet the ball carrier in the hole and driving his feet through tackles to wrap up. This young man also crashes flat down the line of scrimmage for the chasedown tackle which he secures for minimal gain. All in all, this is a edge rusher style defensive end that also has potential to work as a 3-4 OLB at the next level.

Ja’Carrion Jones

Mr. Jones is a new name to me this fall that finished the day with 6 carries for 18 yards and 3 tackles. This young man is a big downhill style runner that is hard to bring down. He does a good job using his low center of gravity to play through contact and keeps his feet driving to break grab tackles when doing so. I would love to see more film on this young man, specifically in his game against Athens during their playoff run as he was dominant as the main ball carrier in that game putting his full skill set on display.
Mr. Brummer finished the day 5/9 for 148 yards and 2 passing TDs. He was able to do so by adding a touch on level 2 throw to hit his receiver in stride for a 87 yard TD in the 1st. This young man also showcases his ability to stand strong in the pocket to get the ball off under pressure right before getting hit delivering a level 3 ball for a big gain downfield. All in all, this is a pro style QB that can add a touch on the ball and make all level throws.
Mr. Walker was involved on both sides of the ball finishing with the following stat line: 1 reception for 5 yards, 3 carries for 14 yards, 2 returns for 48 yards, 8 tackles, 1 PBU. His threat in the return game was flashed starting the 3rd where he broke a long return for his team setting them up in good starting field position. He did so by using his foot quicks to burst through the alley which is similar to what he did when he had the ball in his hands on offense. Here, he was able to burst through the hole to stay ahead of the sticks working as a wingback. On defense, this young man was able to come down in run support to make tackles near the box and on the perimeter on outside the tackle runs.

Elijah Wills

Mr. Wills finished the game with 4 carries for 92 yards with 1 TD (76 yards), 13 tackles, 1.5 TFLs, and 1 FF getting involved on both sides of the ball. One play that really stood out was on a 4th down run where he had to bounce it outside and broke a 76 yard run for 6 using his foot quicks to do so. On defense, he was a menace working gap to gap and shooting gaps to disrupt plays in the backfield. He also was responsible for hitting the ball out on an option play forcing a turnover to give his team the ball back and setting them up in good starting field position which they then capitalized on for a TD.
