2022 Season Result: 4th in Foothills Division
Review:
It wasn’t the season that Capital wanted to have but it showed what this team is really made of. The Eagles just happened to have some thing work against them this year when legendary coach, Todd Simis retired and the Eagles graduated a highly decorated senior class. Yet this team still finished in 4th in a really tough Foothills Division. They showed real fight in every game they played behind some of the best individual performers in the SIC. You could see that this team is extremely young with a ton of juniors starting on both sides of the football mixed in with some sophomore players. Going back to an under center offense behind a young junior quarterback who if you watch has some serious tools. The Eagles were more of a ground and pound offense who would use spread sets to throw the football. On defense the Eagles used multiple defensive fronts led by one of the best edge defenders in the conference. Something to look forward to for the Eagles is the two corners that are coming back. One a junior and another who is a sophomore will be another year older coming into next season. Those two should be a formidable duo next year that will terrorize opposing quarterbacks with their coverage ability. Even if the season didn’t go how many in the program would have liked this is still Capital and they showed that this team has some pieces that could be very good in another year. Many expect them to rebound after some adversity this season because this program is rich in winning tradition and it wont take them long to get back especially with this young nucleus of football players in the program.
