The North Shore Mustangs are #2 in Texas and #8 in the nation vs The Austin Westlake Chaparrals are #4 in Texas and #9 in the nation. This means both teams are top 5 in Texas and the top 10 in the nation. This is the 1st time these two teams have faced off in almost two years. Westlake has been undefeated for three years with a 54-consecutive winning streak. Westlake has won three consecutive state championships and now they are facing last year’s division I State Champs North Shore. The game started as a back & forth and Westlake getting a safety early on gained momentum. However, North Shore answered back by scoring two touchdowns. Westlake and North Shore athletes couldn’t come out of this game unscathed. By the end of the game, 7 total athletes from North Shore and Westlake suffered from some form of injury or sprain. Both teams played the best football they could, but the final score of the game was 49-34 with North Shore advancing to the state finals and ending Westlake’s winning streak. In this article, I’ll be discussing The North Shore Mustangs’ defensive secondary.
#3 Evan Jackson DB, QB Sr 6’0
Evan Jackson is a pure and unadulterated athlete. Not only is Evan a great defensive back that provides great coverage he is also North Shore’s punter, punt returner, and backup quarterback. Evan is a master of all trades and I love seeing athletes with tons of variety Evan played every position to near perfection. Evan ran in a 50+ yard touchdown punt return by breaking four tackles and the quarterback threw a long lob pass for a touchdown. Evan is a top college prospect having numerous college and university offers from; Grambling State University, Northwestern State University, Stephen F. Austin University, and Lamar University.
#5 Jacoby Davis Jacoby Davis 5'11" | 170 lbs | DB North Shore | 2023 State TX CB Sr 5’11 175 lbs
I can name several qualities Jacoby Davis Jacoby Davis 5'11" | 170 lbs | DB North Shore | 2023 State TX has, but one trait that standouts are that he is a phenomenal athlete. North Shore played man coverage the whole game and Jacoby was always on his man allowing no separation between them. Jacoby was a huge problem for Austin Westlake by not allowing any passes to come through to his receiver. I noticed Jacoby last year and he has only improved since then and is one of the top DBS in Houston. I’m not the only one that noticed Jacoby’s talent he has numerous college and university offers. Jacoby has college offers from; Auburn University, the University of Michigan, Mississippi State University, Baylor University, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and the University of Houston to name a few of them.
#10 Jarvon Coles OLB, SS Jr 5’9 185 lbs
Jarvon Coles is a very technical yet aggressive linebacker. Jarvon was patiently biding his time to tell where the play was going and was able to deflect any passes that came his way. Jarvon was also aggressive and physical he made sure to tackle anyone that he had his sights on. Being an essential player on the best team in Texas demonstrates his fortitude and skillset. By the end of the season I gratuity Jarvon will be a top college prospect with tons of offers by his senior year.
#7 Jayven Anderson Jayven Anderson 6'1" | 200 lbs | DB North Shore | 2023 State TX DB Sr 6’1 205 lbs
Jayven Anderson Jayven Anderson 6'1" | 200 lbs | DB North Shore | 2023 State TX had an amazing game against Austin Westlake. Jayven shows everyone why is a 4-star athlete by providing great coverage the entire game but was also a great striker and tackler. On run plays, Jayven would come up and properly wrap up the running back and bring him down. This was all due to Jayven’s quickness and speed. Jayven is a top college prospect having numerous college and university offers from; the University of Texas San Antonio, Purdue University, University of Houston, Ole Miss University, University of Colorado, and Grambling State University to name a few.
#6 Devin Sanchez Devin Sanchez 6'2" | 170 lbs | DB North Shore | 2025 State TX CB So 6’2 180 lbs
It is extremely rare to see such a tall and long limbs cornerback like Devin Sanchez Devin Sanchez 6'2" | 170 lbs | DB North Shore | 2025 State TX . Devin is incredibly quick and fast providing a no-fly zone not allowing any passes to come through to any Westlake wide receivers. Devin is in his sophomore year and is already a 5-star athlete this proves he overwhelms every wide receiver he has faced. Devin is a 5-star athlete is a top college prospect catching the attention of numerous amount of colleges and universities from; the University of Texas San Antonio, the University of Southern California, the University of Alabama, Michigan State University, The University of Oklahoma, and the University of Texas to name a few.
