Today, we’re sitting down with James Finley of Andrean and getting to know him better. James is a versatile DB from Andrean who had a stellar season. In his Sophomore year he put up 70 total tackles, picked off 6 balls, and returned 2 of them to the house, including a 99-yarder back on the 6th of November. He’s a phenomenal athlete who is going to get better and better over the next few years and could easily be one of the highest ranked DBs in the state. I met up with James for a short interview to ask him some generic questions and get to know him a little bit more.
Question: “What does football mean to you?”
James Answer: “Everything. I’ve played it since it was 5 and I don’t know where I would be without it. I’ve learned so many life lessons through football as well.”
Question: “What are you looking for in a college and it’s program?”
James Answer: “I’m looking for a good program and a school with good academics. Not just that, but a fun environment to be around as well.”
Question: “Have you thought about a major or is that still open?”
James Answer: “I’m interested in forensic science and am taking a class soon and if I enjoy it I go that route.”
Question: “Do you care where that college is or are you open to location?”
James Answer: “I’ll play anywhere. Location isn’t an issue.”
Question: “Do you care what level of football you play or are you open minded there as well?”
James Answer: “I would prefer D1, but not deadset. All depends on the staff, school, and academics.”
Question: “Do you have a preferred position as well at the next level?”
James Answer: “I would prefer DB but I’ll play anywhere. WR, RB, Special Teams. Whatever I can do to help my team and be on the field.
“Question: “Do you have a preferred DB Position?”
James Answer: “Corner back because it’s harder and more challenging as an individual.”
Question: “What was it like playing at Lucas Oil Stadium for a state championship?
James Answer: “It was awesome. Once I made my first play I felt pretty happy and settled down and got into the flow of the game. A few minutes after that it was just like a normal game.”
Question: “What’s your favorite food?”
James Answer: “Ribs.”
Question: “What’s your favorite snack?”
James Answer: “Gushers or Welchs Fruit Snacks.”
As you can see just based off his quality of food picks, he’s got a good head on his shoulders. All kidding aside, this was a ton of fun. James is very down to earth, humble, and a good sport to talk to. We joked throughout the interview and it was great to sit down and get to know one of the upcoming recruits in the state. Talking about football, goals, and food just to get to know him a little bit and have some fun with it. If he came out and said his favorite food was lima beans or something the red flags would go up. However, no such issue here. We’ve got a talented down to earth recruit who just wants his shot to play at the next level when his time comes.
