We’ve already started receiving our All State forms from coaches across the state and the Pirates have had a lot of suggested players from teams that faced them this season. One of the most suggested players has been senior lineman Garrett Douthit Garrett Douthit 6’3″ | 270 lbs | DL Gore | 2023 State OK on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. On offense, Douthit anchors an offensive line that paves the way for arguably the best rushing attack in the state of Oklahoma today, not just in Class A. We’ll have more stats to back that up with a few other players to watch later on. But on defense, Douthit is just as dominant along the line of scrimmage. He has nearly 100 tackles on the season, which is good for third most on the Pirate defense and is second on the team in tackles for loss with 30 on the year. That Gore defense has been one of the best in the state this year, giving up just six points per game.
For the third straight season, Gore running back Gunner Dozier Gunner Dozier 6’2″ | 195 lbs | RB Gore | 2023 State OK has gone over 1,000 yards and this year, he reached new heights with his running numbers. Dozier has over 1,700 yards and 35 touchdowns and he only has 131 carries on the season. Dozier is ready to go out on top with a state championship this weekend. He’s been one of the more productive players in Class A over the last few seasons. He also has production on the defensive side of the ball. He has ten tackles for loss and seven sacks this season. Dozier is the leader of a rushing attack that has not been stopped, slowed down or anything remotely close to that this season. The Gore rushing attack has a combined 80 touchdowns on the season. Dozier has to be considered one of the top players, not only in Class A this season, but in the state of Oklahoma.
Arguably the most versatile player for the Gore Pirates is senior Jackson Duke Jackson Duke 6’0″ | 180 lbs | ATH Gore | 2023 State OK . The senior standout is another part of the Gore rushing attack that has combined for a state-leading 80 touchdowns this season. He has nearly 900 yards on the year and 16 touchdowns on the ground. How dominant is the Gore rushing attack? Those numbers from Duke are the third best on the team this season. Read that note one more time. Duke has also gotten the job done on the defensive side of the ball. He has well over 100 tackles this season and has 14 interceptions during his career. Teams have stopped throwing at him and he doesn’t have as many this season as he’s had over the last few years. Duke leads the team in tackles and leads a defense that has been simply dominant all season, with eight shutouts during ten regular season games.
The quarterback position was the only question mark coming into this season after they lost their starting quarterback from the last few seasons. It was the one position that the Pirates didn’t have a returner coming back. Gore junior quarterback Noah Cooper Noah Cooper 6’2″ | 195 lbs | QB Coweta | 2024 OK stepped into the role and he excelled in the position. While the Pirates are definitely a run-first offense and Cooper was part of that, he also showcased his arm quite a bit this season. Cooper threw for nearly 1,500 yards and 21 touchdowns with only 3 interceptions on the season. But Cooper has also run for over 1,100 yards and 19 touchdowns on the season. With Cooper coming back next season and the Pirates losing quite a few players on offense, we think that Cooper will become a massive star in this offense as he’ll have to do more with less experience around him.
