Specifically, in the 5A level of play, Ware County, and Warner Robins have remained as the final teams that will face off in the championship round. Not only have each of these teams earned their spot due to solid coaching, but the top talent from each of these teams has been crucial in helping them get to this point. Below, feel free to take some time to check each of these players out.
Trey Hargrove (LB) – Ware County
This season, Hargrove has stepped up big for the Ware County defense, and can be viewed as one of the key reasons for their success. He has not only been instrumental when it comes to big time stops and tackles, but he has done a good job of getting to the ball carrier in the backfield, and in pursuit. Hargrove has also been a huge part of the Gators going on a 13-0 record, with an undefeated 5 game regional schedule. Look for him to make plenty of plays, and tackles to try to disrupt Warner Robins in the game ahead.
LJ Hall (CB) – Ware County
While Hall plays the CB position, and may not be deemed as important to the team as other position groups, he has done a solid job of holding it down on his side of the field this season. He has limited opposing yards allowed, and receptions, and his fluid movement, and ability to change direction on a dime is a huge reason why this is the case. In addition to this, he also shadows movement very well, and can be trusted to match up with number one receivers, which he will certainly have to do in this upcoming game. This season, because he and his team defended the pass, and run so well, they were able to limit opposing teams to just 90 points all season long.
Brandon Washington (WR) – Ware County
During this season, Washington has been a huge part of the offense’s success, and he has even helped contribute to the team’s total of 466 points scored this year. His speed, explosiveness, and ability to make plays after the catch have been huge for the team, and has even resulted in a total of 449 yards for him this season. With this, he has also averaged around 12.1 yards a catch, on 37 receptions. In addition to this, he has also averaged around 37.4 yards a game, and has a total of 2 TD’s this season.
Jarvis Hayes Jarvis Hayes 6'1" | 175 lbs | WR Ware County | 2023 State GA (WR) – Ware County
Along with Washington, Hayes has also had a very successful season in the passing game. In total, he racked up 963 yards for the team, and has averaged around 17.2 yards a catch on 56 catches. With this, because of his high levels of production, Hayes also averaged around 80.3 yards a game. Due to this level of production, it should come as no surprise that he also contributed with 12 TD’s this season. Going into this championship match up, look for him to be a big target for his offense.
Vic Burley (DE) – Warner Robins
Burley, who is one of the best prospects in the state for his position, has done a wonderful job of showing fans why this is the case. This season, he has totaled 57 tackles, and has helped his team to a 10-4 record, in which they would undoubtedly like to take some, if not all of their shortcomings back. In this 14 game span, Burley has used to size, and explosive talent off of the edge to not only make crucial stops for his team, but to make some big plays as well. This season, Burley has averaged around 4.1 tackles a game, and has also had 3 sacks. In this upcoming match up, look for him to potentially play one of his best games yet.
Nick Reeves Nick Reeves 6'4" | 265 lbs | OL Warner Robins | 2024 State GA (G) – Warner Robins
While Reeves may not get as much credit as the other players on this list, we here at PrepRedzone recognize that he is one of the most important elements of Warner Robins team, as he does a solid job of not only protecting Reece, but opening holes for Brown as well. He plays with quick feet, and a solid base, and also does a good job of using his hands in pass protection. With this, he is also very consistent when taking on the impact of opposing players when they rush the passer, or shoot gaps, making him one of the more fun linemen to keep an eye on in the game.
Malcolm Brown Malcolm Brown 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Warner Robins | 2023 State GA (RB) – Warner Robins
Brown has not only done well this season, but he has utilized his burst, and top speed to rush for an average of 58.5 yards a game, which has helped him reach a total of around 819 yards by the end of the season. With this, he has also touched the ball 177 times, and has seen 6 TD’s as a result of this. In the championship match up, look for him to touch the ball a fair amount of times, as to help balance the passing game, and to take pressure off of Chase Reese.
Chase Reese (QB) – Warner Robins
While Chase may not be the most flashy, or popular QB in the state, he does a wonderful job of executing consistently, and assuring that the ball is always distributed effectively, and accurately. Reese has had the luxury of handing the ball off to Brown, and a stable of talented backs, but this is not to discredit his success in the air. This season, he has passed for around 1,500 yards, while also throwing for 17 TD’s, to only 6 interceptions. In this upcoming match up, look for him to play conservative football, as to not lose the game, but to also not be afraid to let it rip when his number is called.
