There are a few guys that we can introduce yall to this year. We are going to start out with some skilled positions, and then go on to the trenches. Let’s check it out.
Eddie George, ATH, Simmons
This is a prospect you guys are going to want to become familiar with. He was absolutely amazing putting up big numbers this past season. Demetric Warren told me very early that he is a guy to watch. He is one that I drove hours away from my home to see. He is a stud that will do great things throughout his high school career. George is a guy that reminds me of Deebo Samuels. He can play running back then go to receiver and play just as well. He has great vision as well as good hands out of the backfield. The way he approaches the game is very competitive. He has a lot of confidence that carries onto to the gridiron. He is a stud that I’m ready to keep up with.
Darrell Smith, ATH, Picayune
Smith is a similar player to Eddie George. He can get out on the islands and give defensive back blues. He also has the physicality to line up in the backfield and get some tough yards. Smith is a very smart football player. He is always making the correct move on the gridiron. He made a very big impact this season as just a sophomore. That’s saying a lot when you think about the team that he was on. Picayune was loaded with a lot of talent. Smith fit in very well in their offense. Next year he will be the number two guy in their offense. Look for him to put up a lot more numbers.
TayQuon McKinney, LB, Louisville
This guy played on a very loaded defense and put up some nice numbers. He is 5-foot-11 180-pounds, but he has a 76 inch wingspan. This kid is going to continue to grow. He will be a problem on the 4A level for the next two years. He is very aggressive, and loves to make contact with opponents. McKinney is a player that brings players down on contact. There won’t be many that can drag him around. He shared playing time a lot with other upperclassmen this year. I expect him to be a full-time starter this season. McKinney is a stud we need to keep up with.
Davarrius Hairston, DB, Starkville
Hairston is a young guy that played his cornerback position with a lot of confidence. He is an absolute stud. Being an absolute stud is an adjective that I don’t use lightly. Hairston is a very talented young man who also thrives on the baseball diamond. He is a guy that won’t be defeated on the jump ball. He also has the long arms to defend passes without getting penalties. I love the way he plays the game. He did a good job this year against some of the best competition in the state. That says a lot for a sophomore. He also has a set of great coaches. That will allow him to continue to grow as a player. Be sure to keep your ears open for his name.
