Chase Carter (SMB) DE. Entered his name in the transfer portal from Michigan State
6’6, 250 lbs. 4 years of eligibility remaining!
Major news the day of the winter portal window opening, I can’t say I expected to see Michigan State true freshman DE Chase Carter in the portal but here we are. A decorated prep hooper and football player, Carter was a consensus top-5 recruit in Minnesota’s 2022 class and held offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Central Michigan, and Nebraska, as well as basketball offers from Florida, Vandy, West Virginia, and Hampton before pulling the trigger on a Michigan State scholarship offer. MN-All Star, First Team All-Metro, Second Team All-State after posting 66 tackles, 27 TFLs, and 13 sacks as a senior. Did a great job of beefing up while in a P5 weight program and put on 30+ pounds while in East Lansing. Appeared in one game in 2022 and didn’t burn his redshirt. Major name to watch in this second recruitment process.
Tyler Magnuson (Wayzata) OL. Entered his name in the transfer portal from Syracuse
6’6.5, 295 lbs. 3 Years of eligibility remaining!
Another P5 surprise the day of the portal opening up, Wayzata 2021 grad Tyler Magnuson had a fun recruiting process to watch as he blossomed and blew up in the late spring before his senior year. With strong junior film, Illinois State, Western Illinois, Air Force, NDSU, UNI, Princeton, Columbia, Buffalo, South Dakota State, Bryant, Yale, Central Michigan, Toledo, Liberty, Army, Bowling Green State, Syracuse, Montana State, San Jose State, Wyoming, Eastern Michigan, Harvard, Arizona, and Duke all offered, and he committed to the Orange on August 7th. After a redshirt year in ’21 and another season this fall, Magnuson hadn’t reported any participation statistics and will have three years of eligibility at his future home. PrepRedzoneMN Preseason All-State, StarTribune Second Team All-Metro, Kare11 First Team All-Metro, AP All-State First Team, and team captain. Can’t wait to see how his recruiting unfolds.
Dorian Singer (Tartan) WR. Entered his name in the transfer portal from Arizona.
6’1, 180 lbs. 2 years of eligibility remaining!
High-profile transfer out of the PAC12 who was the conferences receiving yardage leader this fall. St. Paul native Dorian Singer tore it up at Tartan High School before transferring to Arizona to compete at Pinnacle High School in the Phoenix metro in search of more exposure and P5 offers. If you know of Singer, his game, or his high school journey, you already know that the wideout is a gamer and has succeeded and produced against every team in any setting, and it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that he balled out on a PWO to Arizona, culminating in a Biletnikoff Award midseason watch list pick. In 2022, he posted 66 receptions for 1,105 yards and 6 TDs. After entering his name in the portal earlier today, he’s already earned offers from Utah, Arizona State, and Miami (FL). From the jump, Singer has bet on himself and is once again seeing it pay dividends. More offers are coming for the sophomore.
Phoenix Sproles (Robbinsdale Cooper) WR. Entered his name in the transfer portal from North Dakota State
New Home: Committed to James Madison
I believe Phoenix Sproles was the first Minnesotan I noticed who made their intention to transfer public, and with the FCS/DII/DIII/NAIA transfer portal window opening earlier than today’s FBS/P5 slot, Sproles has already found a new home and will stay among the FCS elite as he committed to James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The 6′, 195 lber. was a 2018 graduate of talent-rich Robbinsdale Cooper and had an explosive prep career that included setting Cooper’s single-season and career punt return marks, finishing with 10 TDs, 7 INTs, and an MN All-Star Game selection. He continued his splash play ability into Fargo and with the Bison and finished with 27 starts and 50 game appearances in five seasons and seven total TDs through the air and on the ground. After entering his name in the portal from NDSU, Sproles earned offers from Samford, New Hampshire, Alcorn State, Central Arkansas, Southeastern Louisiana, Northern Iowa, University of Maine, Eastern Kentucky, Missouri State, Norfolk State, Murray State, Northern Colorado, and Tennessee Tech before shutting things down and committing to the Dukes. Best of luck next year, Phoenix!
Terry Lockett (SMB) WR. Entered his name in the transfer portal from Michigan State
6′, 180 lbs. Has 3 years to play his 2 years of remaining eligibility!
The Class of 2020 stud Minneapolis product is another high-profile transfer out of East Lansing who contributed as a true freshman and sophomore among the Spartans WR corps. Lockett began his career at Minnehaha Academy before moving to Ohio to play a year of football and basketball and then coming back to MN to finish things back out with SMB. A talented hooper and two-sport standout, Lockett’s speed and twitch helped him earn football offers from Rutgers, Purdue, Minnesota, Iowa, Cincinnati, and Michigan State and committed to the Spartans in December of 2019. The undisputed #1 WR of MN’s 2020 class, Lockett immediately made an impact at Michigan State as a true frosh and played in six games, earning 30 offense reps + special teams action. In 2022, he caught 4 passes for 22 yards in 9 games and earned around 50 reps of experience. His experience as an underclassman is a great plus in his second recruitment. No reported offers since entering the portal but PRzMN will keep you posted!
Terrance Kamara (Minneapolis North) RB. Entered his name in the transfer portal from the University of Northern Iowa
5’9, 190 lbs. 3 years of eligibility remaining!
The 5’9, 190 lb. powerful RB turned collegiate SB was another surprise entry into the portal after a productive redshirt freshman at the University of Northern Iowa. Minneapolis North 2021 grad Terrance Kamara led the state of MN in rushing as a junior in 2019 but was a product of the COVID-19 pandemic and experienced the wonky and limited recruiting process preps of that era lived through. Originally committed to Air Force, Kamara flipped to the Panthers, enrolled early, and in the fall of 2021 he played in two games, rushing for 46 yards and a TD and having a big day against WIU, rushing for 40 yards and a TD and catching two passes for 60 yards. In 2022, he was moved to slot receiver, and had some solid kick returns for the Panthers, but was generally withheld and is now looking for a new home. Go Polars!
Sam Robertson (Wayzata/North Dakota) DB. Entered his name in the transfer portal from Northern Illinois University
6’2, 185 lbs. 3 years of eligibility remaining!
Long and sticky Wayzata graduate has been busy in college and is looking for his third home after having a standout career at UND, transferring up a level to NIU, and now open for recruitment once again. As a prep, Robertson earned All-District, All-Area, and All-Metro honors after a senior year in which he totaled 38 tackles and 15 PBUs in the Trojans defensive backfield. He then signed with the Fighting Hawks, appeared in two games as a redshirt freshman and made his collegiate debut against powerhouse North Dakota State. He followed it up by appearing in 11 games in 2021, totaling 11 tackles, half a TFL, and a PBU, and found an FBS program to call home after transferring from UND in November of 2021. The Gophers offered a PWO before he committed to the Huskies as well. In December of 2021, he signed with Northern Illinois, and almost a year later he’s back in the portal with a few seasons of eligibility remaining. Lots of football left for the Plymouth product.
Cole Stenstrom (Mounds View) QB. Entered his name in the transfer portal from South Dakota
6’1, 220 lbs. 2 years of eligibility remaining!
I’ve seen a lot of good QBs in my years of scouting for PRzMN but Mounds View graduate Cole Stenstrom still remains near the top after I saw him pick apart a Buffalo squad in November of 2019. Smooth, natural throwing motion and a strong arm helped him hit throws all over the field, both routine and high pressured. Stenstrom totaled over 4k passing yards along with 35 TDs, marks that set him at second and third in the Mustangs record books, respectively. Mounds View was 3-6 in 2017, 6-4 in 2018 and 8-3 during his senior season when he combined for 27 TDs (18 pass, nine run). He carried that arm talent into the Missouri Valley Football Conference for the South Dakota Coyotes, and in his 2022 season with the ‘Yotes he totaled 95 rushing yards and a TD, 146 passing yards and a TD, and seven yards receiving. In 2021, he had a big game against Illinois State and threw his first collegiate TD pass. Now, with two years of eligibility remaining, he’s looking for a new home and has received an offer from Southwest Minnesota State since entering his name in the portal. Can’t wait to see the 220 lber. in action again!
Bilhal Kone (Apple Valley/Iowa Central CC) CB. Entered his name in the transfer portal from Indiana State
6’2, 190 lbs. 2 years of eligibility remaining!
The Appley Valley graduate tore up the JUCO recruiting scene after a 2x All-Conference career with the Iowa Central Tritons and landed with Indiana State in December of 2021. In his ’21 season with ICCC, he posted 36 tackles, 8 PBUs, 2 INTs, 2 FRs, and a blocked kick and earned a PWO from Minnesota for his efforts, as well as offers from Texas A&M-Commerce, SEMO, Northern Colorado, Incarnate World, Eastern Kentucky, and Presbyterian College. As a Sycamore, he posted 34 tackles, 6 PBUs, and a fumble recovery, and on November 21st he announced he was entering his name in the transfer portal after a successful fall in Terre Haute. Since entering the portal, Kone earned offers from Northern Iowa, Akron, Ball State, Murray State, and Montana. The length, COD ability, and ball skills helped him now enter the sphere of FBS recruits. You can thank his experience as a #JUCOPRODUCT for his continued success and continued leveling up.
Anthony Moe-Tucker (Kasson-Mantorville) ATH. Entered his name in the transfer portal from North Dakota
5’11, 225 lbs. 4 years of eligibility remaining!
The PrepRedzone Showcase standout and veteran is a 5’11, 225 lb. ball of dynamic athleticism that played all over the field with great success for Kasson-Mantorville, nearly winning a 4A state title as a senior. That fall, he posted 1,300 rushing yards and 17 TDs plus 12 sacks on defense, and was also a stud wrestler who placed in the state tournament twice and helped the Komets to a 2nd place finish as a team in Class AA. Moe-Tucker ended up signing with North Dakota on a PWO, and after a year in Grand Forks he entered his name in the portal and is in need of a new home to play football and get a degree at. Since putting his name in the portal, he’s earned an offer from NSIC contender MSU-Moorhead. Would love to see him continue to play RB in college, he’s a fun one to watch.
Abe Schwinn (Cretin-Derham Hall/Arizona State) LB. Transferring from Abilene Christian
6′, 225 lbs. 2 years of eligibility remaining!
Another well-traveled Minnesota product, Schwinn committed to Arizona State on a PWO out of high school after he completed a standout career at one of MN’s most traditionally-rich programs in Cretin-Derham Hall. A team captain, 2x All-Conference, and All-State HM pick was also a standout baseball player but decided to play in football in college in the PAC12 for the Sun Devils. Schwinn also had a PWO from South Florida at the time he signed with ASU, and eventually transferred to play FCS football for Abilene Christian in Abilene, Texas, where he’s played since 2020. Now, as a grad transfer with two years of eligibility remaining, he’s once again on the recruiting trail. Stay posted with PRzMN for more news on the thumper.
Deyon Campbell (Hopkins/South Dakota State) WR. Transferring from Minnesota State-Mankato
5’10, 200 lbs. 1 year of eligibility remaining!
Formerly the fastest player in MN at the time of his senior campaign with Hopkins, Campbell signed with a teammate to Missouri Valley powerhouse South Dakota and appeared in 22 games for the Jackrabbits over the two seasons he was in Brookings but eventually entered the transfer portal and landed with NSIC heavyweight Minnesota State-Mankato. The former 2x All-District prep as a Hopkins Royal was back in MN playing ball, and with the Mavs in 2021 he recorded 17 receptions for 211 yards, 170 rushing yards, and 172 return yards as well. Now, as a grad transfer, he’s looking to fill out that last year of action at a new home.
Zach Durfee (Dawson-Boyd) DE. Transferring from Sioux Falls
6’5, 250 lbs. 3 years of eligibility remaining!
Maybe the most intriguing of the recent MN entries to the transfer portal, I have and will continue to preach that the Northern Sun signs, develops, and produces football players that can contribute and succeed at higher levels of football. Sioux Falls has recently created two NFL players, and as another testament to the level of football they play they have a possible P5-worthy underclassman on their hands. The Dawson-Boyd 2021 grad was a 3x All-Conference pick, All-Area selection, and standout basketball player in high school, signed with Sioux Falls, and as a redshirt freshman this fall he tallied 28 tackles, 13.5 TFLs, and 11.5 sacks, and earned First Team All-NSIC honors for his efforts. There was somewhat of an exodus of Sioux Falls players after the season with Durfee highlighting the bunch, and since entering the portal on the 29th he’s excitedly earned offers from Iowa State, North Dakota State, and North Dakota. I am extremely pumped to see the new offers roll in from high level suitors and will be eagerly following his recruitment as it continues to evolve.
Cheick Kaba (Fridley) DL. Entered his name in the transfer portal from Minnesota-Duluth
6’1, 270 lbs. 3 years of eligibility remaining!
The former Fridley Tiger trench warfare specialist signed with the Bulldogs after a standout prep career in the Metro. Since entering his name in the portal, he’s earned offers from East Central University, Notre Dame College, and Wayne State College.
