North Shore is ranked #1 in both Houston and Texas while Atascocita is ranked #3 in Houston and #7 in Texas. North Shore and Atascocita have been dominating throughout the whole season no other team would be any competition for them. However, from the start, both teams would have to play at their best to gain the advantage. The game was intense each team barely getting over the other by the 2nd half the score was 3-7 with The Atascocita Eagles leading. This was the 1st time all season that North Shore was behind during halftime. The game continued to heat up during the 2nd half Atascocita started with a big kickoff return which later resulted in a touchdown. North Shore with their backs against the wall was able to apply enough pressure on both offense and defense to score two touchdowns in the 2nd half. This led to a final score of 16-13 with The North Shore Mustangs remaining undefeated. In this article, I’ll be discussing The Atascocita Eagles’ offensive and defensive standouts.
Atascocita Offense
#15 Darrell Gill Jr WR Sr 6’3 180 lbs
Darrell Gill is a great wide receiver. Darrell is tall, fast, and tough this resulted in him being one of the main wide receivers on Atascocita’s offense. If the pass was short or long or two-three defenders were covering Darrell he will still catch the pass. One of Darrell’s standout plays against North Shore was a fantastic catch over two defenders for a 45-yard pass. Darrell is a college prospect currently having one college offer from Sul Ross State University.
#5 Tory Blaylock Tory Blaylock 5'10" | 175 lbs | RB Atastocita | 2025 State TX RB So 5’10 175 lbs
Tory Blaylock Tory Blaylock 5'10" | 175 lbs | RB Atastocita | 2025 State TX had a great night against The North Shore Mustangs. Whenever Tory got the ball he would rush through the hole, and zoom down the field. Tory was a major threat against North Shore by collecting the most rushing yards of the game. Tory best play was when he was the returner on a kickoff at the start of the 3rd quarter he returned the ball for 70 yards. In the next couple of plays, Tory was able to score the 1st touchdown of the 2nd half. Tory is such an important player already in only his sophomore year I’m excited to see how he progresses throughout high school. Tory ended the night by rushing in one touchdown.
#14 Claude Slaughter WR Sr 6’2 165 lbs
Claude Slaughter is a dependable wide receiver. Throughout the game, Atascocita was mainly reliable in running the ball to avoid North Shore’s deadly secondary. However, when Claude did go out for a pass he find the right path to get open for passes. Claude ended the night with one receiving touchdown.
Atascocita Defense
#99 Samu Taumanupepe Samu Taumanupepe 6'3" | 380 lbs | DL Atascocita | 2023 State TX NG, DE Sr 6’3 380 lbs
Samu Taumanupepe Samu Taumanupepe 6'3" | 380 lbs | DL Atascocita | 2023 State TX is an incredible defensive tackle with quickness and power to boot. Samu is the biggest and heaviest player I have seen in High School football. Every time I’ve seen Samu play offensive linemen can barely contain him even while being double teamed they were not even able to slow Samu down. Samu was able to plug up holes and didn’t allow running backs to run the ball freely. Despite his size, Samu is light on his feet and uses his quickness to get through the offensive line to get into the backfield. Samu is a top college prospect being recruited by numerous colleges and universities but decided to commit to the University of Texas A&M for the fall 2023 football season.
