Unfortunately for them, Atascocita took the moment into the rain delay (almost a full hour) and continued with it the remainder of the contest. Here are the Stand Out Players:
I fee like I bring him up a lot, but I can only tell you about Stand Out Players, and Big Samu is one of them! Ridge Point, more times then they should have, single blocked Taumanupepe, and each time it back fired. Taumanupepe was instrumental in slowing down a very good rushing attack lead by Ridge point’s Ezell Jolly Ezell Jolly 6’0″ | 175 lbs | RB Ridge Point | 2023 State TX ! His bull rush is lethal! When he shoots his hands and fires off the ball, he is unblockable. If he even develops a rip move or a spin move, he would be even more of a problem than he his now! A fellow scout and I were watching the game, and I pointed out that Taumanupepe slows down towards the end of the game cause he gets tired. I can’t be mad at that, he’s a nearly 400 pound defensive lineman that plays in a 3 man front. His fellow D-linemen are very competent in their own right, but Taumanupepe regularly sees a double team almost every play! You would slow down too if you had to do the same (there’s a point to this, I promise)! Well during this game, there was a rain/lighting delay. The delay lasted close to an hour. Atascocita had the ball once the delay ended, but on the first play of the defensive series, Taumanupepe came off the ball like the QB stole his money! Us scouts looked at one another and simultaneously said, “…he’s well rested” and laughed. The senior is making it really hard on offenses throughout the playoffs!
As the game was ticking down, Atascocita needed to run the clock out: they knew it, Ridge Point knew it, and everyone else in the stands knew it as well. Now that that was basically a facts, the only thing left to do was execute the plan, and Blaylock did that! His patience and burst is very apparent. I will keep saying it, the more he stays in the weight room, the more dangerous of a runner he’ll be! He’s. Only. A. Sophomore. There aren’t many defenders that can bring him down in the open field. Though he could stand to get bigger, that does not stop him form running hard and lowering his shoulders to get those extra yards. He is a decisive runner, planting his foot in the ground and accelerating though the hole. Blaylock follows his blocks well and at times even sets defenders up to go one way, with the intentions to cut back. Oh, and he can catch the ball with ease and block well. The sophomore is making plays for his team!
Highlights
Kyran Lee
Kyran Lee
Lee is as quick as a hiccup! He is very dangerous with the ball in his hands! He is a threat to score any time he had the football. Primarily a slot receiver, Atascocita use him well: motioning him around, throwing screens, returning kicks and punts. Any way to get him the ball in space! Due to most of his passes not being deep, I believe some people think Lee may not possess good hands. Well, I am here to tell you that is incorrect! He has good hands and has demonstrated that he can catch a variety of different balls (that was in no way a shot at his QB). Lee creates plays for his teammates. Just him motioning alerts the defenders and naturally gets them to flow his way, providing a cut back lane for Blaylock or a bootleg pass for Zion Brown (QB, you’ve probably heard of him). What I love most is his willingness to block! A couple plays had Lee motioning into a trips formation (Lee being the 3rd receiver, closes to the QB), and at the snap of the ball he would use his momentum to block the outside corner. Several times Lee’s block sprang his teammates loose, one being a touchdown (#15, Darrell Gill Jr.)! If Lee is getting involved, the Atascocita Eagles are driving and scoring!
Marquell Dorsey-Abram
Marquell Dorsey-Abram
I was a little hesitant to put Dorsey-Abram as just a linebacker. For starters, he did not look that big (listed at 205 lbs.), and he played out in space a lot. I saw him more as a hybrid, but leaning towards the Safety position. Dorsey-Abram was all over the field. Atascocita used him as a blitzer, in the open field, and in the box. He played with his hair on fire and flowed to the football really well. If I had to guess, I’d say a team would bulk him up a bit and be a full time LB, but his athleticism is amazing! Dorsey-Abram read his keys, and rarely missed a tackle. He caused two fumbles in the process! Good sideline to sideline speed and not afraid to bring the boom, the senior really balled out Friday night!
